My Cousins Bowling Action - Feedback Welcome
« on: April 05, 2014, 08:58:08 PM »

Hi Guys,

My cousin asked me to upload a video of him bowling to this forum so he could get some feedback.

Here's a link to the video

Cheers Haseeb!

He seems to be falling away at the release point when you slow it down you can really see it and might bowl a odd no ball or two but I would like to see him from different angels like face on side on and behind I would work on the release point before trying to bowl quick as if he has not got the control he will go for runs I hope this helps and don't mean to sound picky  :)

The other issue with falling away to off is that he will tend to push the ball down leg, and risks leg side wides.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Next time we're in nets I'll try to get some more video at different angles.

It would help as then can show him yourself about falling away as he releases the ball

Lead arm is the issue, trying to clear it quickly and pulling his upper body to the left giving the impression of falling away.

His lead arm is down by his side on realise so he needs to try and get it nice and high on realise

It's a good action ...he is not falling away ...a number of junior coaches are say he's falling away because that's all they know (every quickie falls away a  tad or too)........if his front foot was braced on hitting the crease ie straight .....he would be more upright....but not much ..... his front arm is good ......he gets through the crease well and his front arm is high and straight at the beginning of the coil .......Rookies have posted a lot of duff information here ......his action is fine ......dont change anything other than looking into front foot block tecnhiques for the front leg .....

good coaches tend not to patronise other people, especially those who
a. they don't know
b. they don't know how qualified they are.

a qualification doesn't make a good coach.

Why ask for feedback then get defensive??

Most things in our wonderful game are wide open to debate head or feet, pre mediation etc

Its a forum for chatting and sharing views.

so here is the thing.

I have my views on the guys bowling action. But haven't commented on it as I know there are some better bowling coaches on here than me, so I don't understand your point?

regardless typically it is good to read what other people say then respectfully suggest a different approach. politely. especially on here where there are some impressionable youngsters. in most cases you don't know who on here is 16 or 50.

As for your views. Ian Pont will have a different view to David Saker, who has a different view from Troy Cooley, all have had success with their methods.

I, for instance am not a big fan of the video you put up of the lofted on drive, but didn't feel a need to pick holes on it. If it works for someone on here great, but I would never coach someone to play a shot on the walk like you have or suggest the lofted drive is played from 2 feet further away from the body, that is nuts (in my view)

for all you know I may be a level 4 coach, so don't walk in and criticise.

just being qualified from the ecb is great, but it isn't enough, or frequently relevant.

For example, the best piece of batting advice I have ever had came from a wonderful woman who wouldn't know one end from a bat from the other and certainly isn't a batting coach - that advice has also helped a number of other players when I passed it on.

As someone who has been coaching for 20 years, my experience is understanding people and their minds is more helpful.

just some Sunday evening waffle.

p.s. the pupil has to be ready for the coach.

a coach can't just barge in and force their views.

that is one of the fundamental issues with English cricket at the moment

Yup, damn right you could have worded it better - what on earth is wrong with a little humility or politeness? It might go a long way on here to getting people to give your points a little more credence.

Nice work on entering what was a constructive debate from someone who asked for opinions. Bet a coaching net with you is fun!
