Reusing a Newbery c6+ handle
« on: April 10, 2014, 01:16:09 PM »

Is is possible for a bat maker to reuse a Newbery c6+ handle. Or would the glue make extraction impossible?

Reason being, is because my Uzi c6+ is old, a small profile and has a nice long crack along the grain on the outside edge.

So, may as well make some use out of the handle if I can.

No point, sounds as if the bat is dead too, send it my way and I'll check for you...  ;)

Ive seen affinity cut the old gray nicscsrbon handles out and replace them with standard.

But having chatted with them. He says its still usable.

Id say a case of steady hand/jig on atabke saw to remove it as close to the hamdle as possible. And then plane it down to only handle. And you should have a usable standard handle to stixk in a bat.

What you thinking. Custom made with you supplying the handle? Or do you have a bat in need of a new handle you plan to swap out?

The C6 handles dont have a splice so would be really difficult to remove and also put into another bat

I have a superb Uzi C6, 2.8 thats hardly used which I bought from Tim that I would consider selling or swapping for a top of the range SS or similar.
Let me know if either one of you are interested. Cheers.

The bat pings veey well, although has a small middle because it's concaved to hell and has 29mm edges lol.

Extraction wise that's what I mean, it's a shaft put into the cleft so that's why extraction must be hard.

I don't want to buy another c6+ bat, I just want to know if anyone can save the handle. It would be cool to reuse it and put it on a more 'modern' bat.

I think these handles have a rod which is glued into the blade not spliced.  You'd have to also find the correct glue to use with you bonding carbon to wood. I wouldn't think standard PVA would do the trick like it does in a standard splice.

Potentially possible, you'd need to find a way to extract the wood socket from the hole in the top of the bat. If you can do that, then you need a cleft, with a hole of the correct dimensions drilled through the top.

If it's dead, it's worth a go.

Could a new wood socket not just merely be made?

Extracting the brass bit wood be easier then,

Also, I did not know that's how the handles were.

To add.

Why not just cut the handle of the old bat as of it was spliced, and then re glue into another blade?
Would this work?

Or would the fact it's now adouble style fitment(willow to willow pva held joint, and then the original c6 joint) make it too flexible?

Do any of the forum bat makers want to have ago at this?

Make a butterfly laminate with a c6+ handle.
