Our pitch was unfit before yesterday's  8 hours of rainfall.

Today's and tomorrow's games have been rained off.

As today was a 2nd team warm up/trial game for the season there will be some confusion as to who's playing where I'd imagine!

First game today, we had a pitch inspection this morning and whilst its damp, the roller has been out on it for an hour already. Looks like it's going to be a bit of a nightmare to bat on though!

Game called off at 8pm last night due to consistent rain.  Typical the sun's out now! Golf course it is then...

I would bat on the track first mate as the roller has pushed the moisture  in to the pitch and as it dries it will come to the top and be even harder to bat on

I'd say the opposite,  the roller brings up moisture so depends on the timescale between rolling and batting.  If it's an hour or so the wind would have dried the moisture the roller has brought up so bat. If you've rolled it just before the game starts then I'd personally bowl first.

Ryan is right. The roller brings moisture to the surface and there it dries. Batting first might be ok for a few overs but once the moisture and subsequent drying takes effect it should do a fair bit. If you wanted to bat first then don't roll it and it will behave like a pudding for a while longer.

Regarding rolling, that's why there isn't much point rolling a dry hard deck. You only roll a wicket when you can press your thumb into the surface, a bit like plasticine.

Very interesting I would off thought the roller would push the water down and as it dried it came to the surface just shows you learn something everyday  :)

Fill a sponge with water and then press your hand down on it, comes up onto your hand.

So making the most of not having cricket, I enjoyed a somewhat showery 9 holes of golf... and now I can watch some IPL!
