Today wasn't too cold. I've played in April after snow showers. That was proper cold.  The umpires had hot water bottles.

Boy am I stiff this morning  :( find it helps when trying to smash the ball out of the ground t the end of the innings to find the middle rather than the outer half of the bat and the inside of my knee!

Decent win 176 for 3 played 145 ish all not, 39 not out and 3 for 30 reasonable 1st game personally. Track wasn't to bad, Pretty damp underneath unsurprisingly for April so very 2 paced and not the easiest to time.

Did have 4 layers on in the field later on but no need for the beanie

First game as captain, lost the toss put into bat on what looked to be a decent wicket, would have bowled though.
openers put on 100 in 15 overs, I went in at 3, felt good and fell in the 40th over after making 73. we ended on 262 for 6, restricted them to 200ish and took 2 nice catches and a run out, so nice way to start the season

We won our first game of the season. I was 27 n.o which is a slight improvement on my 1st XI average of 0.25. (5 innings, 4 ducks and a 1 off the glove down to fine leg :D) I was in the team to make up numbers and after not bowling and being picked to bat at 7, I thought I was in for a wasted day but you never know how cricket is going to turn out and I was happy to hit the winning runs and give the captain a selection headache for next week!!

We were chasing 165 and got there with about 7 overs and 6 wickets to spare.

Played inter club game yesterday 21 players turned up. Spent 50  overs fielding 9 batting, and 15 umpiring. Apart from a cold wind weather was okay.

Season got underway yesterday - and managed my traditional freak dismissal to open the season (run out by a throw that was directed at the other end!) - making a decent enough 36 before hand.

We won.

Not sure why I didn;t enjoy any of this....

Still trying to get over a torn muscle so no cricket for at least another two weeks :(

Have learnt that a new bat should not be an excuse to get back into the nets before you're fully fit as it only makes things worse...

Mixed day yesterday, played Bridgwater who are one of the top Premier clubs in the WEPL. They batted first, and eased their way to 270 odd from 40 overs. I turned the arm over for a couple overs and managed to trap ex Somerset and Derbyshire player Steffan Jones for a duck, and picked up another wicket in the following over.

Opened the batting in reply and struggled, played and missed at a lot of quick bowling and eventually nicked off for just one. We finished 177-7 in reply.

First game today. Iffy. 0-23 off 6 (2 catches dropped off my bowling) and 0 not out... - umpire commented that I looked like an established batsman  :D
Apart from my accolades from umpires, I was disappointed with my fielding. A few mistakes lead to some 1's turning into 2's!
Good to be back - shame that's me until 24th May!

Played for a team made up of mostly us 3rd XI Players with a couple of 2s and a guy from the 1st.  Played a local side for our annual friendly, always at their place, Stanway.  Thatched pavilion, on stone mushroom stilts!

They batted first, came on after 16 overs.  I took 1-39 off my 8 overs, which included 5 fourballs which were duly dispatched.  Need to eliminate the one I hold onto for too long and drag down...Got my mate out who opened with one that spun in and hit the off bail. They set 162 in their 40 overs.

I opened the batting with the guy who played in the 1sts a couple of years back, struggled to get going against some tight bowling and we put on about 70 in 20 overs. Felt difficult until I got to 15 when it was coming more naturally. Played a lovely cover drive for 4 which was my highlight, and also an off drive with the same result (hit 4 or 5 in total)  Got to 33 before I was done by a ball that seamed back a fair bit, didn't get over it enough.  Frustrating but enjoyed my time in the middle.

Lost a few quick wickets as soon as I fell and ended up needing 12 of the last 2 balls but couldn't get over the line.  Enjoyable game though

You must be close to me then. Stanway was in our league last year. Possibly one of the nicest grounds around. We got relegated with them (they finished bottom) but we was drafted back into the league in January as a team had dropped out.

I played a game yesterday where we had oppo 99-9 and their last wicket partnership put on 20 runs as the bowlers just bowled outside off stump? I batted 3 and made 29 off 101 balls as wickets were falling all around me ... i knicked off second ball but didn't walk and wasn't given out. In the end we lost by 12 runs which ultimately their last wicket partnership put on which was disappointing, and today played a t20 and made 27 before twisting my knee setting off for a run so and had to retire hurt and consequently injured for 4 weeks so pretty bad start to season really.
