We won the toss and opted to bowl first. Opposition had a loan player who normally plays about 5 divisions higher and he really took the fight to us and scored 133 out of 247-4. However some of our fielding was truly abysmal including one U18 who chickened out of trying to catch a dolly. I can accept players who drop catches but not even to try really ****ed me off. The guy who scored 133 was dropped about 5-6 times, twice off my bowling and then next over he just started trying to cart me all over the place.
My match then got even worse as I opened, got a single off second ball of our innings then didn't score another run in the next 10 overs before getting bowled. Problem is I seem to have forgotten how to hit the ball although to my defence I couldn't physically reach well over half of the deliveries I faced. Last season I played a 20/20 early May, hit a couple of 6s in a very quick 25 in a match we won and that gave me the confidence to take an aggresive attitude into Saturdays.
Anyhow during the winter I did some recruitment and the 3 new players I brought in got 89, 35 and 29 and with some useful low order contributions we actually overhauled the opposition's total with 2 balls to spare. Last two seasons, we struggled to post even 150 on Saturday and I don't know who was more shocked that we won, the opposition or me?
