27 point victory. We were all out for 149 off 51.5, bowled them out for 136 I think with 7 balls left. Batted ok, got 19 then stumped off a really slow medium pacer on a really slow wicket. Something to do with swinging myself virtually off my feet trying to connect! Pitch was turning nicely, bowled 14 overs and would have bowled the last over, got the three wickets I needed for 50 2nd team league wickets :) Went for about 35-40, two dropped catches and a mis-communication in the field cost me more, and a lot that did just too much to be edged or take the top of the stumps.

we lost a friendly today i was out in the 5 over to a thin top edge and the keeper took a good one handed catch we were all out for 100.I took a simple catch as we got 3 early wickets. I then came on to bowl when the scores were tied and bowled a maiden and they won by 5 wickets

bowled the oppo out for 38 and knocked them off in 7 overs, complete waste of a day!

What is going on with the standard? Two's also won by 10 wickets?

Today's game I'm sorry to say was simply not an enjoyable game to play in. Firstly we lost after a good start to the season isn't a bad thing as can keep us grounded as a team. What really annoyed me today is firstly the quality of the ground. Played a team based  in Kent (not going to name and shame) This is a good standard of cricket in the Kent championship but no covers, no sight screens, awful facilities. Secondly is this stupid rule about no umpire and forfeiting the toss. We have an umpire avery week but this one week he has been really unwell. So we don't provide an umpire and we lose the toss. But they provide a shocking wicket, no sight screen on a pitch that sits in a bowl basically surrounded by woodland and 80ft trees, no showers and 3rd world changinge facilities. Doesn't seem a fair trade to me.

So we batted first lost a couple of early wickets both given lbw, so myself and number 5 build a nice partnership until there bowler an off spin bowler bowling to a right hander gets one to grip on the pudding of a pitch turn huge and hit the batter on the hip down leg side, bowler appeals like a moron and umpire gives it out to the amazement of myself and half there team, now the decision was that bad I just drop my bat and walk as far away from the umpire as I can, out batter asks what he was given out for and the reply is ct behind, keeper says he didn't hit it and I say to the bowler his appeal is worse than the decision his reply directly in from of the umpire is "I know it wasn't out but its my job to appeal" so I ask the umpire who heard what was said to call him back " no I've made a decision it may be wrong but I'm sticking with it.

We get to 151 off 46 with myself batting through for 65

So in there innings opener walks in front of all 3 gets one that shoots along the floor and plumb in front, not out. Anyway next ball he is caught no problem. So next guy comes in middles it to me behind the stumps umpire not out. Later in the game batter hits one back to bowler great low catch from the bowler we appeal and hand ball to umpire as claimed the catch, he says couldn't see it, not out.

Luckily the batter felt so bad he walked off.

My point from all of today is this team unfortunately have always been this way inclined. The majority of there lads are great blokes to talk to and are good players but the whole mentality seems to be to get away with everything,
. I don't want to use a set word as its not a great way to describe a team, espicially after losing as may sound like sour grapes. But the whole game is dictated by the forfeiting the toss due to no umpire when this is the first time in 3 seasons we have not had one. They provide awful or no facilities so surly it evens its self up as to make matters worse you have there umpire at both ends to contend with as well. Was he just incompetent or had a bad day?

While a team should never lower themselves to cheating, it doesn't help taking the moral high ground. In essence cheats prospure,  play them at their own game. That doesn't mean cheating but don't give them the benefit of the doubt and dont do them any favours. We had a period when we went 5 weeks without an lbw once, because we were the top team and the other sides didn't want to do us any favours, no plumb lbws. So we made a note and gave it back second time around. Harsh on wides?, we can give that back and we'll concede less because we are better than you. Once teams realise that they will get nothing because that's what they have done to you, often they start to change their tune because they come worse off. Don't instigate it but make sure they know who set the precedent.

Regarding facilities, play a good level and sight screens are a minimum. Covers ideally at higher levels. Playing on crap facilities drags down a league.

The bottom half of the division is shocking, you know that there are probably only two batsman that can get a score and if you get them cheaply you will roll them for under 100.  The whole league is pretty poor now, if Ted hadn't dropped their aussie we would have beaten Old mods in the cup and we only had 5 first teamers playing and they had 9.

For those that know Hampshire, we played at Fareham & Crofton's ground at Bath Lane, Fareham.

Cracking afternoon in the sun, and with the tide in the boats on Fareham creek could have been down on The Med in the South of france.

Batted first and we put on 162-5 in 40 overs. Pleased with a 52* with 1x6 and 6x4's.

Bowled the oppo out for 68 and then a quick pint of London pride in the Churchillian on Portsdown hill.

Best view of Portsmouth, in the dark and all lit up.

Tidy.

Do not miss Pak Shaheen one bit, or Warsall YMF!

Haha YMF have folded now! The Pak Shaheen ground lived up to it terrible reputation though, should have played really but that's probably just because how bad we were. Bowled out for 72 on a shocker of a track. The knocked it off in 20 overs or so, highly disappointing. Shame the ground is so poor cause they are a decent bunch of lads.

Who do you play for mate??

I play for DACD Cricket Club based in Rowlands Castle just north of Havant.

A team of 40 and 50 year olds who have played together since 1987!!!!!!

Very sociable Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon cricket.

100 years ago as a kid I played at Waterlooville and Hambledon and then in the mid 2000's I had 3 seasons at Bishops Waltham playing Hampshire League cricket.

Now far too old for 150 plus overs in a weekend.    :(

Don't worry about it.
We played a team last week who's slow bowler was on 699 wickets for the club, he went for 80 off 10 overs and left still on 699 wickets.

Played a good bunch of guys today in Bromley, we bowled first limiting them to 137. Brought myself on to bowl to fill a couple of overs but ended up taking the last 2 wickets in 5 balls for no runs

I'm finding the early season pitch's uneven bounce very frustrating - I love the ball coming on and, as an opener, I find I'm getting bogged down - always finding the ring of fielders - then getting out trying to force the pace.  Scores so far (not including first innings where I middled the ball onto my pad and got triggered lbw!) - 21 (off 57 balls, was 7 off 47 and just getting going when my team mate ran me out), 13 (off 32) and 10 (off 39).

I seem to be going for the big shots, which isn't my natural game.  Worst  of all, I'm feeling very good at the crease - don't feel any bowler has troubled me, but as a team we don't seem to be scoring runs so I'm caught between wanting to stay in and needing to score runs more quickly...
