Decided against playing today as its a 70 mile round journey for me to get changed in a community centre football dressing room field on a football pitch and bat against the new ball on a parks pitch wicket and  pay 10.00 match fee.

Fair enough, bet you'll be the first name on the team sheet when you're playing at the ground with a road of a track, plush changing rooms and a great tea and probably expect your team to drop the bloke who put the effort in to accommodate your lack of will. What a terrible attitude.

Our lack of batting bites us on the (No Swearing Please) again, our bowling attack is rather good. I came on first change as I wanted the particular end but our other opener wanted that end too, so I didn't mind. I came on and bowled 24 dot balls and on the 18th taking a wicket. I went on to bowl 7-4-1-9, very pleased with that as we bowled out the other team for 138 before being bowled out ourselves for 47. That's the third week in a row that we've score under 50 and we've won one of those games by scoring 49 mind.

Worst thing was I was getting my eye in taking it slow when one of my team mates triggered me LBW, I was outside leg and it hit me in the hip, I was fuming.

Palyed in top division today for the first time with firsts!

Usually play in bottom division with seconds!

Batted 8 and made a steady 8 got out playing big shot in last over.

Kept wicket against quality attack who could get paid and got 3 victims!

To be honest stuff dreams are made of and I am so happy tonight!

In fairness, it is pretty grim playing at dumps

It is, but why should he only get to play at the decent grounds while his mates go represent his club in the various holes around the country? Stinks of diva to me and if I was his skipper he'd be getting dropped for a few weeks until he decided he appreciated playing for the team wherever it takes him.

I misread the original post and thought it was 70 miles one way.  It's only 35. Less than an hours drive. I'm  with tango on this one.

Not my best couple of weeks. Last game before I was away for work was rained off, missed two whilst working at Lords and Trent Bridge. Last week got thrown back into the seconds without having bowled in the best part of a month, went for 24 off 4 overs, damp wicket that seemed to sit up from back of a length, perfectly into the arc of the opposition's sloggers. Managed to win that one by 4 wickets, didn't get a bat as I was at 9. This week batted at 7, and went in pretty early, got 10 and felt really good and like I had loads of time, with a pair of boundaries over mid off, new bowler came on and I mistimed turning the ball to leg, and a leading edge carried to a reasonably deep mid on who had to backpedal as well. Bowled 4 overs, went for 18 but was on a hiding to nothing because of our collapse, of 93 all out, lost by 9 wickets before tea. Opposition's main bat finished us off with a rapid 48*, took my 4th for 13, and said to me after the game that with my technique I am wasted down at 7, and I should just sort out the mental aspect and I will get loads of runs. Tbh, it could have gone better in my first game since being made Sunday captain!

We were rubbish with the bat, again! Bowled and fielded really well and gave ourselves 55 overs to get 116. 11 overs later we are 37-7 and pretty much game over. Myself included terrible shots from all, ended up 99 all out and can almost write off promotion

The solution is to throw them out of the league unless they improve the facilities. Draw up a list of "issues" and get them passed at a league agm as rules for entering/staying in the league. If any league wants to attract decent clubs then collecting a large number of holes isn't the way.

I agree but clubs just cry and are usually let off year after year. Playing at a dump has to be the most dispiriting thing in cricket, I know I personally just don't give a crap if I ever turn up and it's crap. Makes me just think 'pfft, what's the point in even trying'

Sad I know but it's really not hard to have relatively good facilities.

Groundsman presented us with a hard grassy deck with a the odd tinge of green. Could of easily batted or bowled first on it. We opted to bat and at 23-3 things didn't look to clever. My contribution a 4 ball duck, got one that jagged back and cut me in half. However, the ball got older and the bowling poorer. We amassed 259-7 in 45, thanks mainly to 85 extras - 6 overs of wides and a huge number of byes. To say the keeper/captain had a shocker is an understatement and the bowling wasn't to clever at certain points. We showed them it wasn't a 260 deck by bowling them out for 66. Our long suffering opening bowler was very happy seeing the ball fly through at waist/shoulder height instead of on the bounce to the keeper.

We used to play at a dump. Was awful ground, awful view, and dark nasty changin rooms with spiders that would eat you if you ventured in on your own.
But everyone was available that week year on year without fail!

They had the best teas in the league hands down!
