Bowling action post stress fracture
« on: April 12, 2014, 12:27:07 PM »

Hi guys, its been a while since ive been active on the forum ive been very busy,
over the winter i picked up a stress fracture and only in the past couple of weeks have started bowling off a full runup again, so about 3-4 months later
would appreciate it if you guys could have a look and comment what you think about it bearing in mind im still very rusty !
the stress fracture was due to simply bowling far too much too often and not giving myself rest,
im still not as strong as i was before picking up the injury so my pace is down
im 15

Before you even start trying to bowl again,  having had a stress fracture should tell you something about yourself physically.  Is suggest you need to work on a strengthening programme for you legs, core and back and not be trying to bowl flat out for a while.

hi tim, sorry i dont think i made it clear, in that 3-4 months ive slowly built up my strength and bowling capacity, with the help of physios etc to get me back on the field and i have been monitored, my runup has been shortened and i dont run in as fast as i did before the injury and thats what im working towards

I would look to minimise impact on your back and lower body on general. Many youngsters are taught now to hop or leap in the delivery stride, I think they have to jump over flat stumps or something. I personally would teach bowlers to run through the crease as much as possible and avoid putting unnecessary pressure on your body. It's not the next 10 years you have to worry about its the 10-20 after that and the damage that can happen. I assume you still want to be playing into your 30s/40s ?
