Wide wouldn't work as it's not a legal delivery. So technically it would have been still the 3rd or 4th ball of the over and so can still hit a boundary (actually less one run from the wide) to boost up their net run rate. Crap bowling anyway from Faulkner and Watson. Watto looked lost as captain...

Hodge was effectively controlling the field and whole match it was said the MI should win the match in 14.3 and when they couldn't suddenly it became a boundary of 14.4. Moreover a long hop fulltoss outside legstump to ensure even if the batsman couldn't connect he would get a wide!
I wonder whether the discussions after 14.3 were to put the message across to the batsman where the bowler is going to bowl the long hop!
