Bola Machine on Spin
« on: April 22, 2014, 10:18:23 PM »

So, during my high-level 'proper' batsman coaching session with El Buzzo this evening, he announced it was time for a change, and set the Bola machine up into spin mode.

Now, I don't normally get much time on the bowling machine at my club, and no-one can ever be bothered to set it up for spin, so this is a novelty. Only the second time I've ever faced it, but what larks! I really enjoyed it, and I found it quite challenging.

Difficulty is, it was set up for gentle leg-spin - however, we only play off 17 yards, so whilst in only turned a bit, it did bounce quite a lot- I also noticed it really swerves in the air. But I liked all of that, because I really had to concentrate. Also, the balls are a mixture of old and new, which I also like because it also adds an element of randomness to each bucket.

The first batch were really about survival, however, once I got my eye in, I was able to unfurl the occasional cultured tw*t and the odd biff, which I felt began to intimidate the machine a bit.

Anyone else practice in this mode? - I'd like to do it again! Buzz even filmed a bit of me, which must mean he had a momentary loss of judgement!

Yep, do it most weeks as part of training. It's as good a spin training as you can get... Unless you have access to a Merlin of course.

It is great fun

Turn the machine right round to its side, and hit the swing button til it gets to 'spin'.
Hope this helps

Humm - it is a beast and it doesn't pick up horrendously for a 3lbs 4 bat. But I could feel the tennis elbow coming on as I tried to use it.

Here is a link to the video - I hope this works/can be seen.

Here is another clip of His Cattusship - this time I had the bola set up for offspin - although we encountered more drift than turn.

Let me tell you 45mph on bola with drift dip and loop is harder than 70 mph - and a whole load more fun too.

No sign of the Brucie Broom last night but plenty of high left elbow... who knew!!

I can't link to it, but I'm sure my left elbow is magnificent. I used it too intimidate the bowling machine!

No wonder it was difficult, there is practically no lighting in there!
