Visit to Spartan WareHouse
« on: April 24, 2014, 08:49:20 PM »

Just arrived back hope after spending almost whole day at Spartan warehouse to hand select Dhoni's range both Seniors and Juniors. Pretty pleased with the selection, there were too may good bats so had to leave few behind. Car is full of Spartan bats, will empty it tomorrow and post photos of few bats. Basically went through every box of bats they had.
They not only look good but pick up and tap up really well

Does tapping up bats in plastic wrapping make it harder to judge the quality of the bat? All the pics I've seen of the spartan warehouse it seems most bats are shrink wrapped

why this question was not asked to Paul as he visited before me?
I don't think it makes any difference to me if the bats are shrink wrapped or not. So far haven't supplied any bats to customer which they were not happy with. Every person have their own way of checking the bat and I think I have enough experience to differeniate bats which will perform better than the others

Why wasn't it asked to Paul.... Because I didn't think of it when Paul posted his thread. It was a genuine question it wasn't suggesting anything at all I was genuinely curious. Not at any point was i questioning your experience or customer service (both I've heard to be of the highest standard)

Yep good point hadn't thought of that. I guess shrink wrapping isn't the same material/thickness and was genuinely curious if it made any difference.

As long as all the bats are shrink-wrapped Asad will still be able to pick out the ones that really ping as there is a commonality to judge from.

Agree but my point was does having the shrink wrapping make it harder to judge the quality. I'd imagine because the sound/feel of the tapping up would change and wondered if it made a difference. Does it require more taps of the mallet, does it make no difference whatsoever... thats what i wanted know

i don't imagine sound would matter as the acoustics change depending on the size and shape of the room you are in. I get what you are asking but I reckon that someone with Asad's experience will still be able to pick out the winners, much the same as Paul at IJC.

And I am sure that asad may pick bats a different way from other people as he seems to have the knack off getting the best out off every bat he picks from the very bottom end bats to top end bats and he seems to get it right which must be very hard when you go though lots and lots off boxes off bats

Every one has their own way of hand picking bats and there is no wrong or correct way. I just do it according to best of my ability. So far players have given their approval so pretty happy with the way I select my bats.
For me the most important things are pick up and willow pressing rather than grains.
Hopefully I will add here photos of the bats I have selected

Just a question - do you use your finger nails to tap and judge the quality ? Would love to sit next to someone and learn that art.
