Hopefully someone can help? I have a slight quandary in that it I think it may be time for me to don spectacles in the outfield (it's not necessary, but would help). As a seam bowler, I have never bothered attempting glasses, my vision is fine whilst batting, but on the boundary I struggle. I've not had any howlers yet, but it's a matter of time till I start setting of in the wrong direction. I have never got on with contact lenses, and was wondering whether anyone has any practical eyewear suggestions?

Could I buy some Oakley sunglasses frames and have clear prescription lenses made? If so, where? And at what cost?

Really isn't a great deal on the internet, so hopefully someone else has had similar issues and could help.

Oakley glasses all the way. I've never worn the sunnies with a prescription.

You can bowl in them. I bowl a few seamers in the nets and they stay on.

Mine are 5 years old and still going strong.
Not sure what they are called, but they are the regular specs, small gray metal frames, with the black sticky pads on the side.

I only use them for sports.

Cost? You get what you pay for. I got mine from an independent in Hampstead, around �300 if I recall. I'll buy them again when (and if) they break.

I can't get sunnies from Oakley as my prescription isn't suitable for the bowed lenses. Can't help you there, but the regular gegs are great.

Very helpful! Thanks. I'll have a chat with the optician and see what style lenses are suitable. I like the half jackets and racing jackets style, but I'd just be looking for the ones that would be most stable on my face in reality.

Do you use an elasticated band around the back?

I didn't know whether there were any other brands that made sport specific glasses?

I just have the cheapest lenses. No coverings. I figured if they get trashed then I'll get them re-lensed. the current lenses are three years old and are fine.

I don't wear a lacky band. The sides are very grippy. I do sweat a fair bit, down to effort exerted, I'd like to think, and that doesn't make much difference.

The only downside is that I do take them off regularly during the game as they do grip. I'd get a headache if I left them on for 9 hours. I change into my regular gegs when I'm not fielding/batting.

Excellent info mate. Will pop to the opticians and have a chat. I'm hoping that I can get lenses made for frames bought from eBay. Will have to check whether my prescription will be suitable for bowed lenses before picking up frames.

I used to wear Oakleys (cant remember style) with prescription lenses before I switched to contacts - got them from Vision Express without any hassles. The only problem I had was on the rare time I batted for any length of time and got sweaty, sweat would sometimes drip onto the lens, but it was not much of an issue.

As mentioned the opticians should be able to help you out....

A lot of pro cyclists use them. Very expensive however. Depends how much curve you want, what your script is, do you have astigmatism...Adidas do prescription glasses too.

I've got some adidas evil eye pro sunglasses with the prescription lenses in and they cost me �220 brand new from OnSpec. I got them over the Oakleys as they come with a strap and legs so I could have them strapped up for football and with the legs on when fielding for cricket. However I'm currently trialing some contact lenses out to see how they go and I'm loving them! Currently using the Dailys and they are great....if they persist to do an excellent job I will be buying some Oakleys

I have prescription Oakley Jawbones (now called racing jacket I believe) and have worn them for the past two seasons. They aren't cheap as you would expect but i get mine from here:

I always go with Oakleys, you get what you pay for and they are well and truly the best on the market.

On a slightly unrelated note a few people swear a pair of Oakleys saved me serious injury (or worse) so I may be slightly bias..

Heard they were good - I am now using contact lenses so its not an issue anymore!!

Maui Jim's are a brilliant prescription sunglass. They do there own lenses for prescriptions so fit perfectly with frames. Bloody expensive though.
