Shoulder Pain :(
« on: April 29, 2014, 03:29:01 PM »

I know there are probably already topics on this, but I do not have the time to read through them all, so big apologies!

Basically, I'm a 17yr old Batsmen and occasional bowler with a very very very very slight build  :-[. I've had shoulder pain that started to occur during last season, but due to other previous joint pains was dismissed. Again this season the pain has returned and is to some extent more severe. It hurts the most just after completing the bowling/throwing action and is then persistent afterwards. The area of pain is if you were to cup your hand over your shoulder, and then extends a little bit down the back and front of the shoulder.
I really do not want to go to the doctors unless it becomes worse, so any information on what it could be and how I could solve it/reduce the pain, would be really appreciated! :)
Many Thanks
Tom

Oh and apologies for not taking the time to look through past topics, but I guess every injury is/could be different. Apologies again!

Rotator cuff injury perhaps? I had this and was given some anti inflammatories to take and it settled down. He did say it will always be a little damaged so could easily be hurt again

you tube some rotator cuff dumbell excersizes and start on a low weight. I've been doing that and my pain has gone in about 4 weeks.

I would avoid any exercises until a doc/physio has had a chance to assess you.

I suffered a shoulder impingement injury( which sounds very similar to your symptoms) and ignored the pain by dosing up on anti inflam' drugs and continuing as normal.
This resulted in a partial severing of the tendon running through the rotator cuff.

I too suffered an impingement and tore my tendon. I dislocated my shoulder throwing a cricket ball but kept on playing for months. Was mis-diagnosed so did physio for 3 months whilst still playing thinking it was something minor. Long story short things never got better so went to see the QLD cricket doctor and ended up being diagnosed correctly and had to have a partial shoulder reconstruction. Put me out of the game for ages :(

So advice would be don't put it off go and see a doctor!

I wouldn't do any exercise untill unless doctor/physio recommends it. Some of the shoulder injuries doesn't go by rest. you feel better little bit but it comes back immediately. To strenghten your muscles, you probably need physio therapy. I know you are trying to avoid doctor/physio but it seems like that is the only option you have to determine what is the root cause. Once you find the root cause, then you can avoid going to physio and can find out exercises on the web.

Please please book an op with the docs.

First ball I faced in the nets in February , leg side full toss from a spinner huge slog sweep and i felt really bad pain in my shoulder.

It still hurts sometimes to put a coat on, carry a bag of shopping and first game Saturday it hurt 3 times when batting, I was very conscious of it, I was out chipping a leg side full toss to mid wicket because I pulled out of smashing it.

My point is if u continue with ibuprofen and your injury gets worse u may well kiss goodbye to your bowling. I haven't done anything and it's probably going to ruin my season

if you car is broken - and you don't know about engines - what do you do? Drive it anyway or get it fixed?

treat your body the same and go an see your GP.

Get it sorted properly now or suffer years of increasing damage and pain.

Hi, I am only new to the forum but could not help but post on this thread.

I cannot agree enough with the posts stating you should go and seek medical advise. Should it be your GP or a physio etc. I damaged my shoulder a number of years ago. Not sure if it was cricket or gym related but cricket flared the issue up. I did not get the issue resolved at first and thought I could manage it etc. Years of physio treatment, MRI scans, injections into my shoulder etc and I still have an issue, so much so that sometimes sneezing hurts like hell, from my shoulder/back & going up into my neck! Physio treatment and strength work help a lot but take the other guys advise and go get it looked at by professionals. Especially as your only 17 and it might be something very simple and basic now but it might not be the case if the pain etc persists!

Kinesio tape has worked wonders for my pains like this, at 8 quid a roll there isn't much to lose by trying it?
