This is stunning...
« on: May 13, 2014, 03:49:39 PM »

I have been looking for a new bat and narrowed down my search to Gold Sovereign Grade 1.
Looked at lot of bats on the forum and outside and decided to go for an Aldred bat.

What I asked for - Gold Sovereign profile, Grade 1, 38+ mm edges and 60+ mm spine, minimal concaving, 2lb 8-9oz fully dressed with light pickup and ping like 3 lb bat :)
The actual list was a bit longer :) but I guess these are the most common ones we all look for in a bat.

Paul's service has been truely exceptional, got very prompt and clear responses everytime I wrote to him and i can be nosey at times :)

Havent receieved the bat yet but Paul just sent me the pictures of the finished bat.... Cant wait for it to cross the atlantic....
Will add detail review once I receive the bat.

Ha ha
Now that's a bat!

It's a shame you couldn't watch Paul shape it for you, , I was amazed how easy he makes it look
Years of trying to make the best bats possible.

Just wait until you hit a ball with it, oh my word they make a nice noise

All I have to do from now till I get the bat is to learn how to score runes  :D

Trust me, ,walking out to bat with that bat, your at least gonna have the confidence to play run scoring shots and know you've got one hell of a bit of willow behind it.

Gotta be honest tho, I'm a bit wary to use mine, ,I really don't want to put a mark on it!
Cross batted a spinner for a straight six last week with it, and I was more bothered that I'd marked the bat!

Looks incredible though some people here will dislike the heartwood.

I've rarely seen so many grains on a bat! That's a lot of wood for the weight. I bet it pings like a trampoline.

See - I don't like it really. I love the shape and i love the grains, but i just don't like heartwood ans would really prefer a clean, single-coloured blade. That said, I think Paul has shown a few like that in the past!

Your looking at players grade got totally clean with good straight grains. That's why that quality is more expensive and harder to come by because everyone has wanted it over the years even down to companies bleaching the willow to give the customer the impression it is clean

I never meant such a bat has been made for the first time in history of cricket by Paul or any other bat maker.

I think a lot of people would make an exception in this case Bruce - I'm not a grain merchant but I still like it - and I'm not a heartwood fan either - there's just something about this one...
