Why own more than one or two bats?
« on: May 16, 2014, 01:29:44 PM »

How many bats does a player need? I mean really?
I can understand having a match bat, a T20 bat and at a push, a net bat, but more than that? Why?

In any case, unless your bats are all pretty much identical, if you chop and change your bat from one game to another, wouldn't that be detrimental to getting to know your bat and therefore getting the best from it?
I'm not knocking the fact that kit badgers like to collect bats like some people like to collect watches; I'm just interested in why - and what people get out of amassing a load of bats that they can't really get full use of?
Because they just can? Or is it more than that?

I take 2 to a game...
I appear to have four in play bats at the moment, plus another 3 in the loft.

I think I have several too many.

However compared to Chad, Simon, Pete, Tim and many others on here - I am at least 10 short of where I need to be :o

there is no need to have more than one bat, but we are in a consumer society where we have to spend and have forgotten how to save, this forum is an apt demonstrator of this.

The pros all have loads and we were all a run or a wicket away from getting snapped up for the county at junior level, so if that's what the pros do then as we should too!  ;)

In all seriousness, I have two bats, one I use in the nets (which was last years match bat) and one I can't use in matches. My current match bat is now on Ebay after averaging 8 in the first 4 games this season and I currently have a new one on the way from Paul Aldred, meaning my net bat has had a promotion back to match bat until I get that knocked in.

You're right anything more than 3 is excessive, though I find looking at bats very therapeutic and can definitely see the attraction of having a room of them to look at after a long day.

I've got a net bat and a match bat. That's it.. Oh and my 2012 match bat but I'm giving that away so I'm doing well.

As Buzz has said you only really need one, that said I have managed to get down to 6 unless theres wet weather around i use the same bat each innings and a different one but the same specification for indoor nets.

Why own more than one bat? That's something my wife would ask ;) I say, why not?!?! They're things of beauty! I have four bats at the moment; two in my kit that I swap between depending on how I feel on a particular day, and the other two are in reserve because I can't part with them. Would I buy more if I could? You bet!

Anyone asking a question like that should seriously question why they are involved on this forum haha

In all seriousness its a good question - I'd compare cricket bats to pints of cider. I don't need 6 pints of cider after every game of cricket just like I don't need 6 bats to play cricket with, but I bloody well want them  :D

Good offers mean we may pick an extra one up.

See a bat we've always wanted to try, feels good to buy a bat and have it arrive at home/work.

I would buy more but now I expect something very special, which seems to rule a lot of bats out :(

Because cbf.......

Tbh, being bed bound, spending 24hrs a day on here, and a growing back balance due to full pay when off sick, I way over spent on bats this winter.

I've ended up selling 7 recently, and broke 2, but still have 14bats that are ready to be used if needed.

I have issues, someone help.

I beg your pardon.... I now have only five and a mongoose (which isn't a proper cricket bat). You seem to have more than me! Think I need a few new ones :o

Vintage willow doesn't count, as it's for display purposes ;)
