SPARTANS....finally
« on: May 23, 2014, 01:14:56 PM »

Well.. from the time spartans launched in australia and UK, i was thinking that an indian company from jalandhar is spending millions of dollars and not selling in indian market....
Then they sign dhoni and still no dign in indian market....

But yesterday i saw this

A stand alone store in delhi...first of its kind for a cricketing brand.

Cricket equipment in delhi/ncr is sold in a different way.
Without tax and an additional 20-25% discount on the retail price, any day of the year.

But they are going to charge sales tax and no discounts.
Just not sure they will be able to compete brNds like SS TON, sg, bdm etc

Still a good news for cricketers.

It will be interesting to know if they have a good selection of bats in the store or just merchandise. Like some of the Reebok stores.

Retail presence like this doesn't come cheap. I am wondering if they have actually started making any money yet.

And why didn't you go in the store mate?

Was stuck in jam on the other side of the road...
Could see 3-4 bats hanging and some work going on in the store...so i think they are not fully operational....

In my view spartans  is at par with ss/ton.

And if they are going to charge extra premium...they are going to be a big flop in indian market....

If you zoom the pic enough...you can see 3 bats hanging on the left.

Spartans are made by SS
The only reason they are expensive is it's an Australian brand

You are mistaken amit bhai....
Spartans is an indian brand registered by spartan sports industries in Jalandhar.

They are a very old company.
They have only increased their screen presence lately.

I have visited their factory once and can confirm that.

Coming close to SS when it comes to screen presence I will agree but with the amount of money they are spending towards marketing,  will they have enough left to spend towards products.  Personally the stickers killed it for me.

Have to agree about the stickers. Hate the diagonally pointing arrow on the backs. Much prefer nice straight lines like Salix, Newbery and Aldridge stickers. Far too much going on.

http://spartansports.com.au/media/wysiwyg/Ambassadors/Large/mitchell.jpg

they started in 1958....

now all these things according to me can be marketing gimmicks....just to charge extra premium from the buyers.....i have been to their factory once....

Spartan are from Jalandhar originally.

They were all into balls- soccer, basketball etc and boxing gear. (Similar to brands like Cosco & Nivia but were smaller)

One of the sons came to Australia and pushed a big chunk of  $$$ into cricket marketing. That's the spartan Au brand- made by SS currently. By another bigger brand last year. Saw some of their next season bats being made - both English and Kashmir - a few non concaved bats coming soon .

Spartan Indian bats have different stickers and model names- (think usual Indian shape in heavier weight- both English and Kashmir willow that is)

Few stories/incidents about Spartan India but not suitable for a public forum!

Who did you have a word with ?

If the MSD LE is that cheap in India, will be interesting to see how the prices get affected else where.
