shoddy coverage of t20 blast
« on: May 23, 2014, 07:29:28 PM »

Not sure who you lay the blame at but.

Kfc big bash. Every game shown live on sky sports.
Ipl everygane shown live on itv 4.
T20 blast one out of 8games shown live. Asling as it dont rain. Then we get a test match from 2005(albeit a great series 2005)

Anybody else think this is poor and perfetic? Sky have 4 channels showing crap and constant repeata. Surely they could show more games.
Send a few cameras to several games. Choice on red button. And then they have a good chance of showibg a live game on a night like this.

The way cricket is ran in england in all respects is a joke at mo. And getting on my tits. They need to sort it to bring fans back into the game. And asap.

I agree there should be more T20 games on TV - especially as they're putting more money in to the new advertising campaigns etc... Logistically it would be a nightmare though due to the county circuit etc - as well as giving everyone a fair amount of tv appearances.

Live Rugby Union, Rugby League and Golf all on at the same time as tonight's game so they couldn't put it on another channel.

Sky are showing over 30 T20 games which is a pretty decent number.  The difference with the IPL and big bash is that we have 18 teams compared to 8 and we are fitting it around championship games as well.  There are obviously going to be more games going on at the same time rather than having one game at once like the IPL and big bash have, which lend themselves easier to the tv schedules.

Agreed that they should have sent cameras to several games.

Then they could red button it.

In the other comps games don't clash as they have a dedicated segment of the season, whereas ours is in such a mess they play in bunches at the same time.

For the amount of viewers they get it wouldn't be worth having 2 games set up

We're getting 8 more games than last season  ;). Thing is TV coverage if anything decreases the size of a crowd which isn't really what the ECB want, but they do want the $$$$ from it. Also not enough interest for sky to televise multiple games at once.

Shoddy coverage to go along with a shoody tournament.
Way too many teams means the quality is diluted. No other tournament has 18 teams.
Today was a perfect example where the England boys should have been allowed to participate like the Aussies in the big bash do.
The format over 3 months means you won't get any decent overseas pro's, the big names aren't going to stay around for that long. Also impossible for any team to build momentum.

Sky should have kept the style of coverage they had in the t20 WC and not gone back to the default. And I agree about showing more than one game.

England did release some players, just from what I can see most likely at the request of sky to their rain cancelled match. The problem you've got in this country is the tradition behind the counties. You can't cut counties out of T20 cricket otherwise they won't be playing anything within a few seasons. It's a tough dilemma.

I do disagree with the scheduling this season however. In my opinion there should be 2-3 games a week and try to get the tournament over within a month (or just over probably) with hardly any/no county championship games within that period, just one day and T20 games.

There has been a huge reduction in crowds over the last few years. I remember going to the rose bowl and witnessing crowds nearly 2x as large probably with funfair attractions all around and families making a day out of it.

I think the biggest problem wrt scheduling is that the season here always brings clashes with international cricket. This is mainly because of the two international teams per summer principle. Take out the first and you'd have time for the t20 with all England boys available.

Not sure why sky couldn't look at a weather forecast before doing a live broadcast.

I see sky are at it again.

All the lovely t20 blast games tonight and not one will be shown live.

Why? I can only believe it's because they must have just the one set off cameras and operators etc.

It's not lie, they clash, they test playing will be done at 6.15 and there is two t20 games at 6.30 and 2 starting at 7!!!

Once again England provides shoddy shoddy coverage, looks like I'll have to watch the double episode of volleyball all stars instead............

It's the ECB's fault. All other cricket should stop and everyone should be playing and get it all gone in 3 weeks. If the England players aren't playing and very few overseas stars it not that suprising they don't want to show live 2nd XI cricket!

Assume they don't feel like going up against the world cup games this evening? I think spreading it out over the season was a bad move, as far as I've seen about half the teams don't even have 2 overseas players, presumably because they don't want to come over here for the whole season playing just a game a week.

I don't think 2nd XI cricket will ever get on tv  :D.
