My latest repair project NOW WITH PICTURES
« on: June 01, 2014, 10:11:14 PM »

PICTURES ADDED IN REPLY

Acquired a new bat today, it was only fit for the wood burner but I thought I'd give a repair a go, what's there to lose after all.

The bat weighs 2lb14 and 3/8 in its current state (including the tape) so if a big hunk of tree. Will see how the attempt to salvage it goes.

(Pictures will be loaded I a bit, waiting on photobucket)

Made by Ace (who I know nothing about)

A nice classic profile

Plenty of wood, no concaving

Only slightly damaged, I was going to use just bat tape but thought glue might be a bit stronger haha.

Glues and taped up (didn't have a clamp big enough lol)

Blimey, going by the size of that split, you've practically got a laminate.

The glue has dried and it's looking almost brand new (if you don't look too closely!)

Not as many as you I don't think mate.

Think I'm up to 14 (well 13 and a half because one is an MMI3) plus a properly vintage GM and 2 training bats!

The most surprising thing is my dad only owns one bat, I need to have a word! (Not that he'd be short of choice if his broke)

I've lost track, as lent a few out to players with less disposable income in need of a decent bat,

I think it's around 13 and half too including my goooosssseeeee.

And she's fixed!

Glued and wrapped tightly in tape last night, sanded down and waxed today, another light sand to finish and then wrapped tightly with tape to help hold the repair and a new scuff on.
She's back from the dead (for how long who knows, but it was worth trying to salvage her)

Her current state

No featherweight! 3lb1 &1/8 with one and a half grips. (The tape and the scuff sheet done help the weight saving either!)

How does the bat tap up now? What impact on performance does the glue have where that crack was at the toe?

Just wondering if its something that's worthwhile if hypothetically,  someone had only the one bat (heavens forbid!), or now its fixed it feels like its lost too much to be used in a game. Would you play with that bat or would you graph another?

Taps up fine, just makes a slightly different noise to what is used to.
Half the toe is missing so I'm not sure tbh, that's been dead for years according to the previous owner.

Would I use it in a match - no because I can hardly lift it!
Will be using it as a net bat to see how it goes.

Cheers. Yep 3lb is too heavy for me too. It looks great regardless. It's satisfying to bring a bat back from the dead and see your mates reactions. Good work.
