New Masuri. Top of the range
« on: June 02, 2014, 09:44:44 AM »

We've a few kit monsters at the club and one chap this season has really gone for it.

A new Laver Signature, Laver Reserve, aside, he produced the new Masuri top of the range lid yesterday.

It looks great. Problem is the weight.

I put it against my £40 Albion (steel grill) and it was a lot heavier. A lot.

I was going to buy the middle of the range model and have our club insignia embroidered on but I will wait now. I carry enough weight on my shoulders, what with these chips I carry, and don't want to topple over at the crease.

Looks great, I'm sure it will stop a speeding bullet, but you'll need a strong neck.

I was wondering about this with it's twin bars and all, was very tempting after seeing them in this ODI series , but there is no point going for a heavier one imo

Interesting - I'm in need of a new lid since the foam lining of my old one has fallen out...Was thinking about the Masuri but not with that extra weight. Anyone seen one of the new Albion ones with the slimmer grill?

2 Seasons ago i had a kook helmet and took one on helmet in the nets so went all out and ordered an Ayrtek ACIS honestly no money can amount for safety and its an awesome helmet as many on here will agree with,
I did try on the new Masuri when i went to owzat cricket, so heavy and bulky in comparison, Ayrtek for me lads any day of the week.

I had the same issue and have hot melt glued it back in. Lol. Rather spend money on gloves, shoes and bats. No performance increase in buying a helmet and still trade it for a baggy whenever I can.

That was what my Mrs said. Probably the most sensible option, but any excuse to buy more kit! :)

I won a Masuri Vision Series Elite on twitter last week and I can also confirm it is very heavy and takes a bit of getting used to but I do like the look and feel of it all together. It is a massive change from my old titanium helmet but I like it. Not bad winning a helmet worth £160!

I won an ayrtek helmet signed by Stuart Broad of twitter. How much is that worth?

I don't know the provenance of your team mates helmet FastEddie, but I suspect the Nwiliam's lid is the only one in this topic that is actually a top of the range one. Certainly us retailers (including owzat) don't have stock of the top of the range model yet. It has made it's way to the players but even this i am not sure sure is the Vision Series Xline, I think it might be the Vision Series Elite.

The only helmets in the shops currently as far as i know are the 2 base models, the Club and the Test. We have both and i agree they are heavy.

His bats must be pretty cheap, as every one of them is defaced!

It is yes. I don't believe the Xline has been produced in any numbers yet, maybe not even for the pros.

I would describe the Xline and the Elite as both being top of the range, the major difference between the two is the Elite doesn't have the flip top peak.

Odd that Talent still have the outdated images.

The Vision Series Xline is the top model. The Vision Series Elite is the next model down but as suggested it is only slightly different, it lacks the flip up peak but everything else is the same i believe.

If it is a titanium model i am surprised it is so heavy. The sample i tried on was heavier, but not loads heavier. The design has changed quite a lot since then of course.

The steel grilled Test and steel grilled Club models both weigh just over a kilo. The titanium Test will weigh less i assume but we don't have any yet. We aren't planning to stock the Elite and the Xline has no expected arrival date - based on the last time i checked.

We where both surprised. He'd been using the old Titanium Test Masuri for ages and was not impressed.

We checked it against my Albion C&D steel grill, which was a lot lighter.
