Wanting Improving my technique and a few questions...
« on: June 17, 2014, 08:22:37 PM »

Evening gents,

Whilst batting on Saturday (infact when the bowler was running in) I got thinking about how I hold my bat. Now I've always been a fan of 2 grips as I've always felt that way I never strangled the bat with my bottom hand. However, I'm now wanting the make myself feel more solid with a very strong/dominate top hand. (A coach on here told me I have a lazy top arm - he knows who he is!)

I have fairly small hands so I've been playing mirror shots (we all do it!!) with one grip and I feel I'm able to control of the top hand extremely more and only placing my index finger and thumb on the bottom hand.

Current stance:

Few questions...

1: Can you hold the top hand to tightly?
2: When should the bottom hand come into play?

Any more tips and suggestions?

Cheers

Nice stance there.Holding the front elbow bent will ensure you play it under your eye and on the floor. If you hold top hand too hard, you will end up tiring your top hand and end up with the bottom hand  totally taking control. A medium grip on top hand and using bottom hand ( using thumb and index ) as just a guide to where you want to hit the ball coming into play last minute.

To play most shots particularly straight and through the vee the the bat needs to be controlled with a medium top hand grip playing with a bottom soft hand grip (thumb and index finger ) prevents the ball being hit back past the bowler and drops the ball at your feet if possible tighten and relax your grip according to the shot you play.

Afraid I can't look past the keepers hole in his whites. Dear me!

Batting stance looks great, keeper's hand position looks terrible!!  Hopefully his hands present a larger catching area as the bowler runs in.
