New bag discussions
« on: June 24, 2014, 05:30:02 AM »

Hi all,

As some of you are aware I am looking for a new bag and have been struggling with size and postage costs.

I think I may have found a solution but it is not as we say... "PC"

Here is the link and i will let you make your mind up on it

http://www.hockeydirect.com/catalogue/product.aspx?node_id=4dac5392-3cbf-4008-a4f4-9c8700f3838a#.U6kL4ZSSy8A

It is actually a  bag for a field hockey Goal keeper,
110*55*48

massive bag.

Would anyone think of buying a bag like this or is the fact it is a Hockey bag turn you off.

Interested to here your thoughts

That is some size isn't it?110x55x48.If it suits your requirements then go for it. Ive got a hockey bag for training as its perfect for public transport in rush hour. Its smaller than a regular duffle.

What was the response like when people saw the hockey duffle? How do you rate the duffle?

Nothing was said. I love the duffle as I said.it's a lot narrower than the standard cricket duffle and a little longer. I think it's only 28cm wide. But I can fit in bat, pads, gloves, strippers, helmets, box, balls and a change of clothes / t shirt and shorts.

yeah nice, thats why i put this up here as when i saw the size of it and the price i thought it looked like a good deal.in comparison i have seen the Spartan MC Wheelie which is the same price for upwards of 90 pounds and that is before postage, the grays one i can get for 64 with postage.

Can't you just get a club kitbag if you need a big bag, or do you play hockey as well?

Dont play hockey mate and yes i could get a club kit bag but you lack the quality in them and most dont have wheels.
i have ahd 100*40*40 before and my current is 100*45*45 but what i like about this one is that it looks to be a solid structure like the old style coffin.

being a hockey keeper, a hockey bag is not a good idea mate, they are a pain in the ass to fit in cars, and are too big and cumbersome, I could have fit myself and all of my kit in mine...

I also think you'll struggle with space in car boots...as well as in dressing rooms!  Red Ink do a great large wheelie for £75 but not sure on postage costs.

Just wait till stock comes in July, unless you play winter cricket?

Thanks mate, i do have a big car but that is good advice,

dressing rooms aren't an issue as it all stays in my bag rather than spread out across the entire room. Postage is always the bummer which is why i was surprised with the hockey bag that they were posting to AUS for 26 pounds (same as prodirect)

Some retailers place a blanket cost on their overseas shipping. They will lose money on shipping for some orders, and make a profit on other orders.

This also saves time/admin as they dont have to generate shipping quotes for each and every parcel.

Absolutely as they mark up anyway so they will make more money on one lot of orders compared to another, is just business

I have been quoted from 10 to 50 by different retailers and manufacturers to post 1 bat. That is quite a big variance. So yeah, shipping can sometimes be an issue. But 26 for a big bag is very reasonable.

I do play Winter cricket here in Aus and yes waiting till July could be the go. Think i will go to my local hockey store though to look at the grays bag as it does look perfect, or will take the specs to a bag manufacturer
