Best story with an overseas was actually at a mates club.  The Pakistani Faisal Iqbal didn't say a word during a game and the skipper had no idea where he would fit in the team.  Apparently he was never actually given a batting spot, he would just go and pad up (whether he felt it should be at 3 or and come out of the dressing room saying "Im ready to bat".

Our best was a Kiwi too - he'd played for Otago a few times, turned up one day on a mate's recommendation and asked if he could play a few games as a batsman.  During his first game we were getting flayed to all parts and the skipper asked if he bowled at all - "aw mate, I can turn my arm over" - which amounted to ragging his off breaks square!

Best thing was he was always first to the bar, and famous for having to leave the field mid innings because he'd "followed through" a little too hard!

First thing ours asked our opener was "Are you f*cking gay or something?" (In the nicest possible way) when he said he doesn't drink.

After taking 5 wickets a few weeks ago (Off 12 consecutive overs), he was disgusted that one of the youngsters brought him a pint of water when he was gasping in the changing rooms, asking him "What is this? This neither looks like, or smell like, a beer... However I will forgive you on this occasion. However, do not make the same mistake again, young man!" As you can tell, he loves a bit of banter.

We don't pay him. He has moved here with his family as his wife is English, he is a former Central Districts player (A good few years ago - by his own admission), but the value he adds to the club is brilliant.

We've been fortunate at my club in the last 2 season's, last season had a Western Australian player, opening batsman and was just sheer class, and outstanding value on a night out! This year we have a Sri Lankan first class leg spinner who is worth every penny both on and off the pitch. One of the best clubmen I've seen in a long time!

We have had quality overseas for the past 6 seasons. This years one is a young Aussie who is a great laugh, good cricketer as well. Previous two season we had a bloke who broke the league record for runs! And previous to that we had a Staffa/Italian who has stayed with us ever since moving here!

We've had a few good overseas, the best player was 'the dentist' (I've mentioned before), but best value has to be Aussie grade players, they get really involved in the club, are more than good enough as an overseas for our level and love a beer.

Best overseas I've played against is Wasim Akram, quick and accurate. I also played against Junior Murray in his pomp, his batting wasn't upto much but his keeping was unbelievable, he stood up to and took everything. His party piece was taking pinged in throws from the boundary behind his back in the warm up.

Decent player though (as you'd expect from a Zinbabwe U19)

Our pseudo overseas (Bermudan international but lives in England, so not registered as an overseas (so cannot therefore play 1st XI)) has scored a few this year. He looks as if he has so much time to play the ball though.

We have had loads of overseas in my time. And for the most part have been extremely lucky! IMO would take a young Saffer every time, wouldn't consider a young aussie. Worst overseas we've ever had was a Canadian bloke, who was pretty hopeless. Came over as a wk, I ended up replacing him in the 2's, as a 14 yo. That's how bad he was lol!

Who was this guy Nick? AB initials? if I got the correct guess. Attitude is a major problem here no work and a huge sense of entitlement, everyone thinks of themselves as a superstar but are useless playing against decent teams.

So much hating on young Aussies

When I went over I started playing village cricket but wanted to improve so left for the kent league and played for nothing. I love my cricket and really don't think I'm good enough to warrant being paid! Got to play premier league and play 3 games a week that was all I needed to keep happy! Personally loved playing the Wednesday night stuff and Sunday games as enjoy playing with the younger lads and friendly banter is more tolerated with the youngsters - not quite so serious!

thats john maynard isn't it. pretty sure hes down in kent this year playing for linden park?
