Keeping Practice Drills
« on: July 16, 2014, 12:25:10 PM »

Thought it might be good to share all our keeping drills, see what we do on top of the good videos from Ian Healy etc.

Specifically I'm interested in any drills to work on taking one handed diving catches. At the moment part of warming up I take catches into left hand then one handed and use the katchet mat but don't always get lots of diving chances off them.

I'm no great standard but was told to gently push weight to toes while the bowler delivers so you can spring up or to the side. Played Sunday as a batter and young lad stood up and went down with the ball rather than the other way round, reckons he's been coached to do this?

Don't know of many coaches who'd be teaching youngsters that one WillyorWonty!
I've always found that it is generally quite hard to replicate taking one handed diving catches, but the best way I found is to have someone hitting or ripping balls into the katchet with you standing 10-15m back. This obviously works a lot better when the katchet is placed on a hard surface and the thrower/hitter is accurate. I would only do this drill at trainings though, and keep my game day routines as simple as possible.

Cheers Benny, will try grab the guy with a gun arm at training!

I am after drills for midweek training. Not gonna tamper my match day routine to try change something then :)

If you have some keeping drills, please can you send them to Matt Prior? He looks like he needs to work on a few...
