Jacques Kallis Retires
« on: July 30, 2014, 01:55:38 PM »

One of the all time greats and arguably the best player of the decade has retired from international cricket.

Over 25000 international runs, 577 wickets and 338 catches makes King Kallis without doubt a true great of the game.

Jacques, absolute 'Living Legend'.

I never used to care too much about players retiring.  However, the likes of Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Ponting, Tendulkar, and now Kallis to name but a few have really hit me in recent years.

I must be getting old !!

Most underrated player ever! Has not got close to near enough credit, quite possibly the best all rounder ever.

Just waiting for someone to say that his test match bowling can't be classed as 'World Class' because (and I quote) 'it is above 30 and that cannot be World Class'.

His batting's ok though.

Stats would say he is not a world class test bowler, 292 @ 32.65

Even Jimmy's average is better and he is a home town bully :P

Jokes aside, great cricketer, sad to see whenever such a talent calls it quits.

I think the stats tell you what you need to know.

45 test centuries - second only to tendulkar.
Third on the all time list of test run scorers - behind.... Tendulkar and Ponting
Better average than Tendulkar, Ponting, Lara and Dravid
Better bowling average than Sobers

A quite astonishing player!

With out a doubt the best all rounder to have ever graced the game of cricket.

Amazed Kallis was so underrated IMO. Probably a better bet than lots of other greats and could have walked into any international team on batting / bowling merit alone!!

Was he underrated? I didn't think anyone thought he wasn't an absolute world class performer? Having someone that good batting at 3 that gave you a bowling option capable of being a front-line seamer and a fantastic pair of hands too.

Potentially the best "cricketer" to have played the game?

Easily in my opinion.

I think un-celebrated is a better term than under-rated. Everyone associated and watching world cricket knew how good he was!

Yea.. "un-celebrated" is probably a better term.

Look at how the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid are treated here in India. I was talking in that context.
