Hi guys

Would it be safe to do a weight reduction by radiator/airing cupboard?

Need to reduce a bats weight by about 1.5oz, then seal it so it doesn't put any back on.
I'm guessing that'd be done by oiling then waxing the bat to seal it.

The question is, would a 1.5oz weight reduction this way be safe or would it drastically reduce the life of the bat? Thanks in advance.

I have done it many times in the past it get the weight down done right but it does effect the longevity of a cricket bat.

How much is unknown though I did it with one of mine 2 years ago and my bat went well for the season mate..

Although done it other times and it has just ruined my bat after a few games

Surely if you got it down to your ideal weight and then added oil it would just make it a bit heavier again?

If I'm honest I worked in stages I put them on take them off the gain roughly half the weight then on again.

It not something I recommend mate.

A coat of oil weight about 0.2oz so it won't make a big difference.

This is what happened to one of our guys bat after he kept his bat in the airing cupboard. He wasn't trying to lose weight off the bat, he just put the whole kit bag in over winter.

Not saying this would happen. He really doesn't take of his kit - also had another bat that he left out in the back of his truck in the rain.

I was only going to put it in to lose a little bit of weight, not leave it there for a coupe of months haha

I would remove the stickers and toe guard, use lighter grips and then give it a refurb/sand down. That's probably 1-2oz. If you do stick it in the airing cupboard then monitor the weight and don't get greedy.

Put it in an airing cupboard for three days don,t put it on or by a radiator.

Just get a pod shaver to remove the weight would cost �30 odd and won't reduce the life span of the bat. Much safer bet mate

Does having weight taken off affect the ping very much? I had weight taken off and all of a sudden the middle felt very small.

Depends on how much weight is taken off and where it's taken off. More volume in the right areas generally means a bigger coverage! Generally speaking though, unless it's a drastic reduction, or all of the weight is taken out of the hitting zone, it shouldn't affect performance massively.

Ask the guy for this bat. Looks like he's taken off about 3 ounces...
