This seasons softs
« on: September 02, 2014, 03:27:37 PM »

So I thought I would do a review on the softs that I have used this season as they are a brand that I have not heard a lot about on this forum.

They are duck and run pads and gloves that I bought at the beginning of this season, and have been amazed at the quality of them for the price.

Firstly the gloves are very flexible and comfortable, they have pittard palms and have inserts on each split of the fingers as well as extra protection on the two most likely to get hit fingers. All in all they are very comfortable and well protected gloves.

The pads I was especially impressed with, they have cane inserts on every strip of the traditional style pads which offers great protection. The one downside to this is that it does make the pads slightly heavier and others I have used. They are however extremely comfortable and breathable great for long innings ever tho I haven't had many! They also have well based straps and pads behind the buckles which are my favourite feature of them as it makes then so much more comfortable when wearing them with shorts.

I love the simple white and gold looks of the pads and the value for money is vet impressive especially for the pads!

Please enjoy the pictures below.

As usual apologies for the poor quality and photography.

They look great. No way I'd use anything for cricket with the word Duck on them.

I like them, ive had the previous gloves without the gold piping on. I question the pittards palm as the trademark tags didnt match.  For value they are excellent. I wanted the pads In xos but couldnt justify another pair.

I had a couple if year old duck and run Pads and gloves previously, they were good quality but these are so much better!!!

Look good. I had 2 pairs of their gloves a couple of years back and they were great value for money.

I'm sure some badger on here will be able to tell the manufacturer

Definitely the Newbery pads/gloves - made by New Greyhound, met with the owner earlier in the season

I used Kookaburra R900 Batting gloves this season in (2013 version)  Fantastic gloves.  Little long for me in the fingers but extremely comfy, soft and supple.  Took a couple of knocks on them and no damage done...  However one gripe is the black towelling...I sweat quite a lot and even more so if I wear a helmet, which means when I wipe my brow I then look like I have mascara running down my face!!!

Impulse 950 pads are good but feel a little cheap inside, and the straps are far too long, thinking about either replacing the pads or attempting shortening the straps!

There are obviously lots of options, but I find the straps on the duck and run pads to be very comfortable and are no where near too long, apart from the slight heaviness I can't recommend them highly enough.

Yeah on second look I'd agree - just copied the designs, the quality doesn't look up to the same standard to be fair to New Greyhound
