Over oiling
« on: September 11, 2014, 03:46:29 PM »

Apologies if it's been posted before but a search didn't come up with anything...

How much oil do you actually need to over oil a bat??
Julian Millichamp recommends 4-6 coats (not applied using a rag) on a bat. This sounds a lot but, I'm on coat 3 of my own bat (which I've decided will be the last one) and it's still drinking it.
If 6 coats is "ideal" how much oil do you actually need to apply in order to over oil a bat?? One thick coat surely wouldn't be the same amount as 6 coats of oil, so I'm struggling to see how you'd manage it.

Anyone in the know what to let me know??

4 - 6 coats 24 hours between each coat in his video.
Three is my maximum, but Julian is an expert, so I take his advice as being 100%.

I think the Laver & Wood method also says 3 or 4 coats I think, so I'm curious if 4 coats is the right amount how many coats do you need to rot a bat?
