2014 - Lords Trade Show
« on: September 16, 2014, 09:06:49 PM »

Dear All,

I apologise for interrupting the Mongoose thread. I thought it would be helpful to open this topic and hope attendees might oblige us, the great unwashed, with photos of amazing kit over the next few days.

I am new and so send early regrets if this is in the wrong place but I thought it might clear the other thread up.  Thanks to InsideInfo for answering my question.  To all those going, enjoy the show!

Will

Unless I'm not mistaken, this is the trade show where, a couple of years back, some nerds off here all got tickets and went round grilling the manufacturers. A few got a bit stressy and the release of the photos had to be carefully managed. Some (Woodstock) just got into awkward conversations with our intrepid nerds! I'm sure Saunders, Hosk and Tom were the culprits :)

Anyone in there today?

Our Instagram and Twitter feeds will be the best place for photos (purely because I can put them up quicker on there than I can on here)!  :)

Yes, Bruce, the organisers have clamped down and made it strictly invitation only now, in the hope that only retailers attend.  It will be interesting to see if this actually happens this year...

It's a 2 day show this year for the first time, and unlike previous years, Kookaburra and GM will be there too...

Was that when John would walk away and talk to someone else as soon as a question was asked about how he made the bats??

Personally I think the show misses out on (and deprives the brands of) a great opportunity to spread the word about the new ranges even more effectively.

In this day and age, everyone has a mobile phone and 4G data connectivity, so will publish to Facebook and Twitter. Why not have an official show photographer with a published schedule doing the round son the stands and publishing to twitter directly? Better quality photos, bit more control, keeps the kit badgers happy and stops the spy infiltration to some extent!

Very good idea that Tim.

I know the Steve N who runs something at Lords (the shop I think) so I'll suggest it to him.

Some manufactures might not be keen to go client facing in such a format but what a way to make some money for Lords and promote branding.  Charge a small amount per ticket, host some Q&As (industry SMEs and maybe some players), bat making demo, have the shop/ indoor school open, etc.  Hold it on a Saturday and you would get a good cross section - working day might be problematic for some.

So the IJC twitter feed has just posted this of the new Newbery Panche;

I feel very underwhelmed by the look of this bat - it looks very dull and lackluster, no real thought has gone into the design of the labels for this - something they've thrown together in 5 minutes. I think they should've kept the minimal look similar to the Kudos.

A bit blemishy too for an SPS I would have thought. Surely they could have found a sweet looking cleft for the show? Don't mind the graphics too much. Has a nice retro feel to it.

I wonder if there are any changes to the Kudos that warrarnts the "2" - hopefully a full length blade.

the Panache looks narrow to hte naked eye - the sticker doesn't have as much border as it does on the Kudos2, which I assume is still a short blade option?
