Or maybe Newbery have just lost the plot? I bet their nationwide sales are well down in recent years.

would be interesting to know, but suspect based on how many of their bats you see in the leagues that they're not at all bad.

A retailer I spoke to recently said they wouldn't be stocking them this coming year due to a number of reasons, though mainly tardiness.

By the way, I've realised 5 out of Sussex's top 7 are home-produced players.

How do you work that out?  At full strength their top order would be:

Nash (H)
Wells (H)
Joyce (via Ireland and Middlesex)
Cachopa (Yarpie)
Wright (Leicestershire)
Yardy (Kent for junior cricket, Sussex as a pro)
Prior (Yarpie)

Of their regular stand ins and lower middle order, Ben Brown is home grown, but Matt Machan is a Scot and Chris Jordan came from the Windies via Surrey. Stef Piolet came from Warwickshire, Magoffin is an Aussie and Ashar Zaidi from...well...just about anywhere but Sussex .

I included Brown, and had Wtight and Yardy down as homegrown.

Piolet is from Cuckfield (Sussex) and played Sussex academy.  But a case in point, had to go elsewhere to get a chance!

Yardy I suppose is at least close to homegrown.  Not going to gie you Wright though!!!

Not a Sussex fan, but yes he is.  There are rumours that he is heading out of the game and in to a career in the city...

Wright played one game for Leicester, so I doubt he arrived with a lucrative bat contract.

Hmmm...he played one first class game, but loads of List A stuff and had been a regular in the England Under 19 side for a couple of years.  I recall Leicestershire were less than pleased to lose his serices...

He was a rising star within the system, so was hardly in the have whites can play category.
