Samit Patel - really???? Surely that ship has sailed in favour of a younger, hungrier (:)) player? They were looking at young Middlesex SLA Ravi PAtel earlier in the year.

Boyd Rankin?????? See above.  I'd hoped the Roland-Jones might get a look in.

No lefty seamers there?

Some interesting things here - firslt, the selection of PArry, who really only plays one dday stuff for Lancashire, but omission of Kerrigan, who was almost brought into the test squad a couple of months back.

Secondly the bowlers - Wood has hardly played this year and Dunn is not yet an automatic pick at Slurry - oh, and Plunkett shouldn't really need to go given his test performances this year.  Are these really the best seven quicks we have lined up?

Interested to hear people's views on Footitt

He looks to have got some real pace. Can he step up? Should he be looking at moving counties to progress?

Some exciting players in there but agree with a few that I can't see making it again ie. Patel

I'm sure I've read about Footitt being 'fast' and 'having potential' for a few years now, but I don't think I've seen him having a decent run in a county side.

Hopefully he is destined to rise above the normal county crowd.

Do people still think Rankin has potential, he's 4th bowler for Warks most of the time?

Footitt is rapid - but its only the last two seasons that he has been able to maintain fitness for the course of a full season.  He could be one to look out for if he continues to progress.

Rankin....not sure how England could really trust a guy who stressed himself to injury in his only test!

Yes, any bowler that can bowl at 90+mph and can swing it is good enough, add 2 broken bones and 9 people hit on the helmet this summer, it scares people like MJ does. And no I don't think he should move! The new coaching set up at Derbyshire have obviously got something working for him. He hasn't missed a game through injury this year (first time ever?). And he is confident in his bowling and taking wickets so why change? And has signed a two year extension this summer is going anywhere soon.

INteresting absentee - Ben Foakes, who has been England's 12th man du jour for ages now, is not in there.
