What type of batting partner do you like?
« on: September 26, 2014, 12:53:34 PM »

Saw the article on Cricinfo, thought it was a good topic to get Forumites thoughts, serious or otherwise...

For my part, someone who's calm, confident and keeps the scoreboard ticking over (important being an opener) - some one who's game I don't have to worry about as well as my own!

One guy at our club who I don't bat with that often as he plays in the firsts and I'm mostly in the seconds, but he ticks all of these boxes.  Batted together four times this season in first, second XI and T20 games, not one partnership under 60.  There really are certain players who compliment your own game...

One who doesn't sit on his bat and backs up.

I'm not particularly fussed what he does when he's on strike.

I hate batting with people who don't look for singles, also hate people who look to defend first.

I'd add that I prefer someone who runs at a relatively similar pace to me between the wickets and is a good judge of a run (ie a good caller).

I hate a strike pincher. Nothing worse than being out there and facing about 3 balls in 5 overs.

We have to many of both of these in my team!

Someone who is a bit sh*t but stays in long enough for me to slap a few about and look good.

As an opener someone who is positive and can score runs while I grind them out trying to see off the opening bowlers and the new  ball.
Get annoyed with teammates  who needlessly give their wicket away especially opening batsman who give the opposition inroads into your batting.

Haha if that's what you like to do, then you'd hate batting with me. I do it straight back if I figure out they are stealing the strike.

I did this once. Lol.

My opener only faced 5 balls in the first 7 overs!

Tbh I only do it if I either think i'm seeing it like a beach ball. Or I don't rate the bowlers and think I can cash in.
