classic
« on: October 08, 2014, 12:58:28 PM »

ok been asked to try and recreate an 80s classic here. we don't have one to copy just from memory as I used to have one and it was one of the best bats ever and of course my hero used one. so the customer and I chatted and agreed that we would go for what I could remember and add my own take on it but get the general shape and the best pick up possible. anyone got any ideas of what shape we are trying to remember? what are your thoughts guys I used to love this bat.

Yeahh I'd guess a Magnum too, my first bat passed down from the old man (living less than 10 minutes from the Fearnley factory had it's benefits!).

Do people still like these shapes or at least a modern take on them?

Middle area looks a tad like the GM zona, which was a nice bat, despite everyone thinking it would have a tiny middle.

I'm a big fan although personally I'd probably have the middle ever so slightly lower (that's personal preference though - I'm sure this picks lovely as is).

Would be great to see the finished bat

I like your take on them - was never a major fan of the Magnum though. Just out of interest, what's the projected weight?

The swell can be placed wherever you want it really. This is 8" from the toe spanning down from there.

Just been having a chat with a member of the site with regard to how the newer style bats look huge compared to the old bats even the magnums and jumbos etc. you can't really see in the pic but I have tried to combine the yesterdays with today's in the design do the back has a small amount of concaving in which has allowed me to keep 35mm edges and a 65mm spine so you have got a big looking bat with the traditional look

ok as promised photos of the finished classic bat. I am absolutely chuffed to bits its a heavy bat but picks up like I remember them doing. Mine was 3lb when I had one and it went like stink. its come out great and in making this I have come across a play on this style that is not only huge but it picks up like a feather and when you look down it, it looks 3 feet wide, I am definitely bringing out another range but that's for a later date. heres the pics and if your in doubt of how good the grade 2 clefts are in the xmas offer this is a grade 2

hope you like I am loving it brings back good memories
