Bargain spots SS Limited Edition
« on: October 08, 2014, 01:49:36 PM »

As I posted in bargain spots the other day is do an update when this arrived.

In short a hardly used SS LE for £80, reaction was "too good to be true"

As Del Boy always said "he who dares wins" so I took the punt.

It needs a bit of a tidy up (mainly just the stickers peeling) and a slight chunk out of the back edge (no big deal) but I got my hands on a full profiled SS for basically half price!!

Pics of the condition it arrived in.

Going to give it a gentle refurb/tidy up and will post pictures of how it looks when done.
I think she'll scrub up quite nicely though!

Looks tidy enough already and will certainly go.

I sold a similar [normal LE] for same price mate. SS don't seem hold much value in second hand market compared to likes of Laver, Salix, M&H etc.

Yeah it's tidy enough considering the fact it's 2nd hand.
The stickers starting to lift is irritating so I'll try to solve that's and that little chunk out the edge needs some attention to prevent it getting any worse.

Other than that it's just a case of removing ball marks and putting fresh edge tape on.
With any luck it'll look virtually new with very little actual effort needed  :D

That's a steal mate. If you were a little slower I probably would've jumped in and bid....

Looks a bargain. Do SS UK do refurbs to get stickers re-applied or not?

Update - No messing about on the refurb!

Scuff sheet off, light sanding, ball marks removed and a light coat of oil applied.
Also added extra binding to the bottom half of the handle.

Once all the tape was removed I counted 10 grains with just a strip of heartwood on the right handers outside edge.

The piece missing from the back edge turned out to be superficial rather than anything sinister.

Aaaand it's done!

Where my top hand goes when I hold the bat, looks like i guesstimated the right place to finish the binding!

Edge stickers were a bit battered, but they've been salvaged, and most importantly they're not peeling off any more!

Looking rather good, if I do say so myself! Only needs a scuff sheet applied and she's ready to go!  :D

whats the use of bottom half binding?
Makes it thicker under my bottom hand (which is very dominant). If it's thicker you can't grip it so tightly haha
