GM 2015 Original Duffle Bag
« on: October 10, 2014, 11:27:15 AM »

2015 will be the year of the duffle!

Each of the brands out there seem to be launching some great looking duffle bags and one of the best is the GM Original. Priced at £44.99, its really well designed with a separate shoe section, 2 bat pouches on either side and a choice of compartments, giving you various combinations to hold all your gear. This model as well as the rest of the GM bag range are now all online and available to pre-order:

That looks like a well designed duffle. But how do the straps work? Does it have a proper waist belt?

That's all it needs...

Straps are padded and full adjustable as you would expect on a bag like this, but yes there is a wait strap too.

Its being enough to carry all your kit, including helmet, pads, shoes and keeping gear.

I would love to see a picture of the rear, when they come in.

Not really a waist strap so much as a chest strap.

Good point, its more chest height, which is better as to have it around the waist could be a little uncomfortable.

This is the point that everyone misses. You carry a heavy ruck sack on your hips, and not your shoulders. The waist strap has a couple of fairly solid buffers that sit on the hips and the shoulder straps only really stabilise the bag. It is far more comfortable and less tiring to carry a heavy bag like this than just with shoulder straps. All it needs is for one brand to cotton on and these will become the norm. When carrying a heavy rucksack, all of the guidance says that 70% of the weight should go through the hips. None of these duffles do that yet.

I've carried enough heavy rucksacks with this on and it is so much more comfortable than my duffle with only shoulder straps that ends up just as heavy.

The majority of people only carry their bag from the car to the Changing room anyway, so in their eyes, it's probably not worth the extra expense.

But I agree, having been on a number of hikes, a decent waist strap makes an unbelievable difference to the fatigue felt in the back and shoulders.

Not sure I agree with that. I actually bought a duffle so it's easy to commute on public transport which actually requires a bit more walking. So a proper waist strap would be very nice to have. Add a couple of wheels on the bottom in case you feel like wheeling it around. And I reckon that would be a really sweet duffle! So who's gonna make it?  :D

Chest strap is a nice touch, and a step in the right direction, but it is probably just there for show more than anything else. Didn't make much noticeable difference when i tried the duffle out.
