hi folks.
been having a go at shaping some partmades and this is my 4th attempt! I'd like to think its the best one so far. I have been on the hunt for a travisher for a while and red ink john was kind enough to sell me one that he had spare. so a big thank you to him but also an even bigger apology as i have now broken it!.
the problem i have been having apart from all of it was how and where to remove wood to help with balance and weight etc the travisher really helped with this as I have been able to keep a fairly large spine and edges whilst keeping the weight down compared to my previous efforts.
i am due to visit ryan in the coming weeks for a bit of a lesson so i will hopefully be able to finish it under his guidance ie sanding,shoulder and a little polish.it still needs some weight to come off too as currently it stands about 2.11 and aiming for 2.8/2.9.  below are a few pictures to show the current state of it.

yeah mate just finished it, was waiting on some of that sandpaper you recommended. will get some pics up later on as my camera is playing up at the moment.

here we go,finished!
a week or so ago i had the opportunity to visit ryan in his workshop for a lesson or two! i thoroughly enjoyed myself like a child in a sweetshop!!! due to this i forgot to ask most of the questions i had thought of on the trip down!
what a lovely and helpful chap. even while he was busy moving house he still took the time out to show me the ropes. i had partly shaped the cleft before i went down with the intention of finishing it there as that is what i was unsure of. so after a lesson in shaping the shoulders, using a travisher, where and how to remove wood to help pickup, sanding, and shaping of the handle and probably the most important lesson.....how to sharpen the tools!! this is it!!!
still a way to go to improve the finish. as you will see by the picks,during the final sanding i managed to tear a bit of the face  none the less its the best one ive done so far! (i say i but i really mean we!)

yeah the handle is on the thick side especially lower down as i ran out of twine halfway down so i used some that i had for previous bats which is considerably thicker than the twine ryan donated.
finished weight is 2.10 but the pick up feels a lot lighter. my finish still needs some work but progress is definitely being made.
 thoroughly enjoyed this one and cant wait for the next one which will hopefully be a different shape altogether!

Looks good that Ian, nice shape to it. i don't think I've actually made anything similar as yet so it might be on the list. Good effort, just remember to keep your tools sharp! It saves work down the line when you come to sand and finish. I'll drop you a pm shortly with those details you wanted.

cheers, so many different shapes i want to try! will just have to bite the bullet and buy that worksharp 
trying to source a drum sander is nigh on impossible. only ones ive found are from the states and they dont ship over seas. will keep scouring ebay etc! one has to show up eventually.
