Never seen one break like this
« on: October 21, 2014, 09:41:06 PM »

A team mate of mine was using this bat that belongs to team kit and hit a six and felt the bat didn't sound right the next ball he played. Upon closer inspection he was mortified as this his fav bat to use and preferred this over the bats he owns.

This bat was purchased from a retailer in India just over six months ago.

Seen this on occasions with bats at the Salix workshop. Only seen it on bats that have been used for long periods and normally dried out too much

Wow. I can't say over ever seen that before either. I wouldn't think that would have been caused by storm damage. The bat was probably over dried like soulman said.

Saw a slazenger go like this down the middle once.
On that occasion our number 3 lent his bat to a big hitter in the nets, a few big shots later it was making a funny noise, it had done exactly this up to the splice, so was effectively in three pieces!

I personally applied three coats of oil on this bat at the start of the season. Though there was no scuff applied and it is mostly lives in trunk of the car.

Cars are basically metal boxes, so become like an oven in the sun, may be a contributing factor buddy.

That will do it. My tennis racket got bent with heat sitting in car trunk.
I never leave my bats in car or garage. They live in my closet.

Duct tape will fix that no problem at all.

A bat I had from Pakistan went in a similar fashion, mainly due to it being extremely dry I think. It had hit about 500 runs.

yes had a couple of guys who brought bats back from Pakistan at our club go like this, over dried same as everyone else has said

on the plus side, presuming no way of getting anything from the manufacturer, I have seen these repaired

I've actually seen 'there's no way that can be repaired etc etc' repaired a few times by someone who knows what they are doing so it's useable

ie a batmaker
