OVERWEIGHT WEDNESDAY
« on: November 29, 2014, 11:46:53 AM »

Ok now seeing as I had so many requests via email and facebook wondering if I was doing anything for black Friday, and I blame the participants on this site for that, Turn of Pace I think the instigator  ;) It made me sit down and think of something different because I hate all the black Friday stuff it drives me mad but thought I could do something that will give one or two people some deals but help me move one or two of those clefts that sit lonely at the end of a year, so this is what I came up with.

Overweight Wednesday
The first Wednesday of December from now on is going to be overweight Wednesday. This is the opportunity to get hold of some beautiful clefts that have only been left behind because everyone wants light clefts. The clefts we are releasing here are top end pieces of willow but are in the heavier range so any of you heavy bat lovers can grab a bargain for one day in the year only.

The rules of engagement are as follows
1. I release pics of clefts available previous to the day for you to look at and have chance to decide on your new friend
2. first come first serve, that means first to pay on the day
3. Orders can only be made by emailing me on aldred173@btinternet.com and I will return an invoice and payment details.
4. We wont reserve clefts if they are not paid for and we wont wait until its your pay day as I have many requests of that throughout the year only for people to end up not
purchasing anyway, thus me losing a sale with someone else.
5. Orders will only be taken on the first Wednesday of December not before not after and will be taken between 9am and 9pm uk time.

No they are not fat just big boned, but they are proud and happy in their skins but just need someone to love them. We can take approx a pound out of the clefts to get them to a naked weight, so for example something that has 3-10 on it in its currant state can be taken down to 2-10 more can be taken out but I think that is the optimum amount to get the best out of a cleft. binding grips and stickers etc are between 2 and 3oz added but that is dead weight the pick up will feel very much like the naked weight if not lighter.
All the clefts are numbered in each range so please state grade and number in your email along with your name address and phone number for shipping.

Take a look at the pics below

Players Grade  £210.00 shipped mainland uk

Grade 1 £185.00 shipped uk mainland

Butterfly 1 £140.00 shipped uk Mianland

I don't think that grainy monster G1 on the far left will be hanging around for long.

They are all beauties to be fair just a bit overweight, I think its because I filled them up too much with runs they are bursting at the seams. the bottom pics have come out a bit orangey by the looks of it but never mind it gives you a good view of the beautiful grains

You mentioned that you will release the pics on Tuesday. So are these just sample pics and actual selection will be done based on pics this Tuesday ?

What would the pick up be like on a 2-10 mid swell?

I won't let a bat go out if I don't think it has a good pick up. Absolutely no point in my playing and making point of view ;)

Would the pick up be lighter than the actually weight?
For example would a 2-10 feel about 2-9 or lighter if it had a mid swell?

For those who have followed me on here you will have heard me say this before so I apologise. A good bat is defined by the quality of the handle and the pressing of each individual piece of willow. Where the bulk of the wood is left in the bat is what determines pick up. The lower In the bat the heavier the pick up the higher the lighter the pick up. The latter sounds perfect doesn't it but if it's too high it's going to be detrimental to how the bat speed enables the momentum of the weight to get through the ball. So it can be detrimental to its performance just in the same way as a bottom heavy bat is going to affect the bat. A well balanced bat that is pressed well will have a nice big middle no matter what shape it is and will suit any wicket you play on. The only thing I would say through playing experience is the slower the wicket the heavier bat you sometimes need not a different placement of wood in the bat. But that's not really over necessary as a batter should be able to adapt to the surface he's playing on.
Look at the style of bats they were using as close in years as the late 90s early 2000s. The old parallel edges the highest part of the spine down about 4-6 inches from the toe. In today's thinking people would say they were perfect for low slow wickets. They were playing county and international cricket with them scoring big hundreds and double hundreds on tracks that were far quicker than any of the county tracks that they are playing on now. If Bryan Lara could score 501 And 400 with the old style bat against quality players I reckon there may just be something in what I have been preaching for the last few years.
A well pressed bat made with a nice pick up will be perfect and I don't let any bat go out this workshop that I don't think is of top quality feel that I would have encountered through all the years I played in the professional game. I can't try and guarantee more what I am about as a company to be honest

One question ?
As these are prehandeled will it be possible to get them in 2 inch shorter blade and regular full length SH bat.
That way the weight issue will be resolved and will get a top qaulity t20 bat for great price .

If you had a standard short handle and a 2 " shorter blade you will have a 2" shorter bat?
T20 bats? Very much a gimmick, will it make you hit the ball further? No. Did they used to have to bring the boundaries in 15 yards all round for people to hit sixes? No. They were bigger boundaries because they didn't have modern stands that had to encroach into the outfields. It used to be minimum 75 yard boundaries in international cricket. They struggle with that now a days as the grounds have shrunk under stadium development. MCG huge ground they always hit sixes there with what would be considered minuscule bats now days, but they weighed the same and were pressed to get the best out of the willow and shaped to get the best feel for the batter. Check the photo below. Dean Jones could hit it long and hard look at the size of the bat. I know how hard he hit it I spent many mornings just giving him throw downs let alone playing alongside him
