Reducing handle length

Advice needed, maybe from one of forum sponsor/bat makers on here?

A mate of mine holds his bat low down on the handle and complains about the top of the handle digging into his lower arm.

He is contemplating sawing a small amount off the top of the bat handle.  Will this affect the bats performance at all?

I know the answer is buying a bat with a SSH but he already has the bat now so this isn't an option.

Just take the saw to it!
Had an ex minor counties player who'd do this to all his bats and the ball went miles (but he could probably find the middle of a fence post!)

Had  the same problem before I had  a bat made with 1 inch shorter handle so I used to cut I inch of the top of the handles it never seem to affect the balance or the pick up also know other players who have done the same as far as I am aware without any problems.
Before you saw  off the top of the handle I would apply tape around the binding just below where you want to cut as this will help prevent the binding from fraying.

Our overseas last year used to cut the end off. I almost cried when he got a brand new gray nics LE and took a hack saw to it. He had a rubber nobby thing that he put on the sawn off end. Don't know where you get these from though

i had been debating about the impact of cutting an inch off the handle so this is a timely thread. definitely going to give it a go on an older bat first.
