Soulman - Its Rich here not Dave

I'm a coach and although I work mainly with juniors I have coached several youngsters through to County level and pretty confident I could help.

Where about are you based? If you're nearby I'd happily have a session with you and get you going! If not get a video of yourself batting and I'll take a look to see what we can do from there.

Hi Rich sorry just saw the B3 sign and assumed was Dave

I based in Suffolk and occasionally in Kent. Assume your in Nottingham? If your local to me than I would be happy to arrange some coaching mate.

If not I'll try and get a video of me batting the next time I'm at nets and get it to you and would welcome and tips or advice.

good topic Soulman
I'm sure my own plans for next year mirror some other forum members, here's my issue that needs addressing:
I'm a natural opener,my personality and shots, I never panic, dont slog and have a basic technique which is considered solid by all my team-mates,and i'm often referred to as the calmest and most technically correct batsman and the only natural opener in the club-we have 4, yes 4, adult league sides.
A the end of last year I lost my place opening, not scoring quick enough on difficult wet wickets so I know I'm going to be down the order in the middle-so a change of game needed.Last year my club was in Div 2, I scored 2nd highest runs, the previous year we were in Div 1, far better bowling and I was highest run scorer in my team...
Face starting not to fit as you might be gathering by now :)
however, I recognise I need to score quicker, and I know a change has already happened and this year it will be middle order..
Tricky problem.....yes.
I'm all ears as usual for any tips
thanks

Time for a new club buddy, this rubbish about having to score quickly is all great but you lose skill and technique. Obviously aim to improve but don't compromise your mindset and technique, just move clubs and leave them to it. So many clubs in desperate need of proper openers and not middle order players masking as openers.

Gonna work on an across the line slog/sweep
Trying to hit the ball on the full toss for six

Wickets I play on now, have no pace or bounce

Hoping to get a lot fitter this year too as was about to give up playing last year, but for a lucky meeting with a top bloke at a new club
Really want to capitalise on every chance this year and I don't want a lack of fitness to be an issue

I pretty much spent last summer closing myself off rather than starting very very open (never used it in a game, stuck to the old way for 2014). This should bring more ontot he legs and allow me to access the off side better. It's yeilding results if nets are any indication.

Only other things really is developing my game vs spin and working hard vs 60-55 mph bowling as I found those medium plodders were nails!!! I was in position so so so early all the time. Found the faster the easier but slow it to medium plod and I was struggling unless you bowled filth. So working hard on that as well.

Fitness and strength!!....... and maybe the forward defensive. For an opening batsmen. I have a weak defensive game

also with injuries and what not I've lost a lot of pace. Being fit and healthy.  I plan to try and find that back!!

Not unintentionally creeping across my stumps, staying upright and still and watching the ball...

Totally agree. Iv been an opener for over 10 years in league cricket and have a strike rate of 70
Odd on league cricket. Iv scored most runs in the league 3 times and always in top 5. Also my side want me to do this as allows the team to bat around me. If I get out early then the other opener reverts to my role.

I find I'm very weak through mid on and will look to work on that to improve it. Also lack patience but not quite sure how to go about fixing that?!?
