Best Value Helmet.

Historically I've used this helmet.

But now with the helmet on its last legs and safety on my mind, I'm looking to upgrade.

Weight is probably not a concern to me as my current helmet seems fairly light. I'm not sure if it's actually light or if I'm just used to a heavy helmet.

So.... Any suggestions ?

Nothing like as light as my old masuri titanium, the looks are a bit marmite to put it politely but it was surprisingly comfortable and a bit of a bargain at £50

With the introduction of the new BS regs this year, the new helmet models from the likes of Grays, GM and Masuri are all somewhat heavier than previous models and that is simply because they are safer - so its essential.

If you are looking to spend around £50 then the Grays Test Opener as mentioned by Felix above is a good option and possibly preferred to the Masuri Club, whereas if the budget is higher then the Masuri Test and Elite models are amongst the best available.

Our range is in the final stages of going through the latest BSI standard and the steel grille models in adult will be very competitive in price, if you have a slightly smaller head size the Youth model with a range of 55-57cm will be under £50 with an RRP of £44.99.

Are there any changes in the adult premierteks? Fixed grill or material changes etc?

The PremierTek materials will remain the same as we're happy with the shells structural strength.

They Gap between peak and grille has been adjusted to the junior ball setting of 45mm and the other holes eliminated so that only this setting can be used in line with The new Bsi standard.

I've never worn a helmet before, just not felt comfortable! I'm seriously considering adding one to my kit bag this year and am after your recommendations? I suppose light weight is a must as I want it to be as un-noticable as possible.

I was in a similar situation and wanted something light. Ended up with the premiertek titanium from Vitas after a bit of reading on here. It's very light, doesn't obstruct my view and I don't really notice it. My head does overheat pretty quickly though!

Ideally I'd say go try some on and see what is best, unfortunately I couldn't!

Was 100 from Vitas, steel grill version is about 60 I think. Difference is about 150grams or somewhere around there.

Ventilation is a tricky one to balance, ideally you want to maximise it with a design. However in placing holes/vents etc in the helmet this invariably adds an area of structural weakness to the shell....the BSI under the test procedure look to test the perceived area of weakness when carrying out impact testing.

This means too much and you'll fail the test....not enough and people will get hot heads when using the product.

If you can get a balanced ratio it helps but having a product that will protect the wearer if hit in the ventilation feature is the aim of the product over coolness when it comes to the primary function of the helmet has been out outlook on it.
