Your goals for the 2015 season?
« on: December 14, 2014, 09:27:28 PM »

Having just seen the 2015 prediction thread it made me think about my aims and goals for the 2015 season.
While it is a long way off and these goals will most likely have changed by the end of next year it interests me as to what you guys want/expect of yourselves for the upcoming season...
My personal goals are:
Score my first 100
Take my first 5-for (I've taken god knows how many 4 wicket hauls but never managed to hit the illustrious 5 wicket mark)

I Look forward to hearing your goals/aims for next year
Thanks
Ollie

Hmmm.

Well after relinquishing my midweek league captaincy role(3league wins in 4 years), the Midweek team had a shocker last year, and I'm back in charge.

So first things first,

Win the midweek league!

After winning no the midweek batting averages 4 times out of the last 5 years. But nothing on a sat. I'll add

Win sat batting averages!

No ton at all last season, and 3 years since my last midweek ton. So

A sat and wed ton atleast.

And after 2 years of injuries, and fitness issues I'm back bowling, so 30 wickets will please me over all formats.

So to sum up.

Win midweek league
Win both batting avgs at club
Score a ton in both formats.
And take 30 wickets.

I reckon 3 of the 4 are achievable.

Good thread. It will be interesting to revisit at the end of the season.
Goal 1.- Not to get run out. I was run out (ran myself out) 7 times last season
Goal 2 - score 500+ league runs and average 50+
Goal 3 - To bowl at least 1 league over
Goal 4 - Not to be responsible for losing a game due to my 1 over
Goal 5 - To win 1 20/20 cup game

My targets for next season

Take 40 wickets in all forms over the summer

Score at least one 50 in league cricket

Prove to a few people that I can actually bat, I'm not just a low order slogger

Hold down a spot in one league side, not be up and down like a whores underwear

Get at least 3 post match chops with a randomer in town

Take a 5-fer in the league - only done it in friendlies before (and have been on the honours board for league 4-fers)

Targets for next season are
Take 35 wickets
Try and move up the batting order currently 11, vice capt thinks i should be at 7.
Improve my pace and fitness as the clock is ticking.

For our first team its to win our 3rd promotion on the bounce and go from division one to the premier division.
I personally would like to get a job on days as last season I missed games due to having a shift job for the first time.
If I can play all games I'd like a 150! :D

Our realistic team goals are to achieve promotion for the 2nd XI from Div 3 and top 2 for the firsts in the prem (our league has runaway winners each year in the prem, so everyone else is effectively fighting to 'win' 2nd place).

Personally, I've always found that setting numerical targets often leads to disappointment, as it can become too self-serving and can affect the way you play.  It's a cliché, but I'm gong to focus on batting more consistently, work on the aspects of my batting that need improving and being more mentally prepared for each innings.  If I do that, my scores - and the teams chances of winning - will improve.

I rarely bowl and wore the gauntlets on occasions last season so in terms of contributions in the field committing to every ball and backing up and encouraging team mates.  If I bowl I'll focus on not going for too many maximums!

Fitness-wise, 2014 wasn't an issue after completing the London Marathon and a 100km walk in April and June.  I've done a couple of half marathons since, so it will be maintaining a half marathon level of fitness and I've not ruled out running the 100km in June next year.  That should keep the excellent club teas from affecting my 2s and 3s...!

Just to bat, and bat a bit longer and then bat on for a bit longer than that.

To stop this instinct of teeing off from the word go 'cos I'm batting down at 8 and 9, and to stay out there long enough to score some decent runs and persuade the skipper to bat me in the top six.

Solidify myself as a batsman worthy on it's own merit if need be, though I'm an all rounder. Make sure I'm consistent and taking early wickets with the new ball, claim a spot in the slips and keep it for the season. If I manage these three, then I'll be a happy cricketer. Oh, and also to make sure I'm enjoy my cricket whilst remaining competitive.
