Highlights of 2014
« on: December 19, 2014, 01:51:57 PM »

Can be anything, though unlikely to be the England ODI team!

I suppose beating India was an achievement at least.

Scoring 74 in a Sunday league game, my highest ever score!
Scoring 55 in the last Sunday League game of the season
Taking 4-4 in the last Sunday league game if the season
Being joint highest wicket taker for my Saturday league (shared it with Liam off here)
Being Player of the year for my Saturday side

Didn't have a bad season in 2014, hopefully 2015 will be just as good if not better :)

The coming together of the world's cricket family in grief following the death of Philip Hughes. It was as heart warming as it was spectacular and personally I was very proud to be part of the game that we all love in becoming united as one to remember one of our own.

Cheeky highlight from a Pom - seeing Pakistan smash Australia and then seeing the Kiwi's show Australia how to play  :D

Big highlight for me was watching my son bowl off his full run up and in the same match scoring a 170 unbroken partnership with him to win the game

Finally laying my hands on a special bat, was a prelude to a decent season for me with the bat with a new club
Managed to play about three times the number of games this year, including Sunday league,t20,friendlies and Saturday league cricket. Hopefully next season will be more of the same

The reemergence of Mitchell Johnson was a highlight for me. Fast bowling is pretty sparse in the modern era. Johnson's career seemed to have fizzled out. Played a Test in Mohali 2013, was pretty average. Missed the Ashes 2013.

But injuries to Pattinson, Starc and Bird saw Johnson return. And how he did. He was unplayable in the Ashes 2013/14 and in the tour of South Africa. A joy to see fast hostile bowling.

I have to agree about Johnson and the value to the game of truly fast bowling.

But the highlight of the year has to be Yorkshire's epic title winning season - comfortably the best First Class side in the world, they were an absolute joy to watch this year, playing aggressive, intelligent crickt throughout!

McCullum scoring the first 300 by a Kiwi. Long overdue and the feeling it brought to cricket lovers in NZ was amazing.
