Spoon? Chainsaw?

In all seriousness, would a spokeshave suffice?

Just sander and a lot of patience if it's not too large an area (and you don't have other tools available)

Drawknife would be good but requires skill. Spokeshave or even a Jack plane are safer options.

Small block plane, spokeshave, drawknife, bench plane, whatever you have that you are reasonably competent with and that is sharp.
Follow up with sand paper from medium grit down to fine.
Even a belt sander would work well to take off the bulk material.

Spokeshave would be more than adequate.

Exactly what tools do you have access to?

Exactly what tools do you have access to?

Straight blade drawknife, random orbit sander, rasp, wood file, and obviously sandpaper.

You should be fine with those, just go careful with the drawknife. Too easy to take off too much.

If you want to use the drawknife just make sure it's very sharp. You should be able to at least slice a sheet of paper with it. If not you won't be able to take thin slivers of wood off without tearing.

I think the main question is what are you going to gain form reducing the edge by a couple of mm?? Seems pointless to me.

Well the easiest way would be to use a spokeshave, easy to use and ideal for reducing the edge.
