2 day game
« on: December 28, 2014, 06:53:13 PM »

What do you think the chances are in getting a touring team or even just a team that fancies a 2 day game to play one this summer?

My thinking is to try and time it for the summer holidays, looking at august so maximum people are off work, max people are available and hopefully the weather is good... Try and do the tea's for free etc for the visiting club and for the home team too to try and attract people to play etc.

Do you guys think I'd get a) Many takers from my own club b) a Opposition willing to play a 2 days game (Unlimited overs, set over rate, set lunch and tea times and finish when the umpires say so (no later say that 1900), two innings per team. Winning team wins £150 behind the bar after day 2 as an incentive to play for the win :) )

i have always wanted to do a match like this at my club but decided it would be too difficult to get enough players. we only have one team though so im sure some clubs with more players could find enough

i was thinking of doing it over consecutive sundays between two locals teams. im sure there are a few touring sides out there willing.

i'll come up and play youre not that far from me

I really want to play a two day game at some point in my cricketing life, it seems like it would be great fun and a Test of all the player fitness and concentration and skills

Difficult part would be getting it to last two days I reckon, people are so used to one day it will be hard for them to change their batting style

We play 2 day games here in NZ. There are 8 teams in our comp (top comp in the province), so the first 7 weeks are the 50 over comp and then we play the 2day comp over 2 saturdays at a time (1st day on sat, 2nd day the next sat). 100 overs in a day. 10:30am start. Lunch at 12.45 til 1.25pm. Tea at 3.40-4pm and then play till 6. Terrific fun if played at a high enough standard, which it usually is. Much better than playing in the colours for a whole season!

I would love to have a week long tour with a game everyday rather than two innings.

I played a 2 day game in September. It worked very well and went the distance...

Takes organisation but so what... If you want it to work you'll sort it

I would love to have a week long tour with a game everyday rather than two innings.

for some reason there are fewer tours happening now which is a shame, and those that do seem to struggle to get 5 full days of proper day games. As Jake and the other couple of people I've helped can testify, if there is a game on... I'll play in it :)   7 days a week if I can.

anyway, I've got the club to agree so I can now set about finding a touring side :)
