Last year i went through 3 different pairs to find the ones that suit me; the nike dominates, adidas vectors, and finally the asics gel advance 5's. The asics for me are brilliant to run around the outfield with but because of the low profile nature i was worried about it when batting so i have ordered the puma evospeed 1.3. Really like the the colours they have for this year with the blue/black as its a hell of a lot less brash and out there with previous years!!

Anyone had/got the more recent Puma spikes? If so which model and how have you found them?
i have last years evo speeds. Always had adidas 22yards but changed to the Pumas. Better quality with the pumas, full leather and comfy.

Which are like trainers? I love playing in normal trainers tbh, makes fielding easier as I find spikes to be less cushioned etc. Are there any that are actually as good as trainers?

Asics gel advance are just as good as their trainers, built like a running shoe which makes them so much nicer to play in (I even bowl pace in them and they're still going strong after two seasons)

The new NB spikes are very trainer like in design, called the CK something.

With an extended budget, I am almost tempted to give the Asics ODI's a go, just to build my collection even further...

Do you find it strange that some of the main bat manufacturers that have a shoe line, produce some pretty average footwear in comparison to the others. i.e. kookaburra, GM, and Gray nicolls being a lot less popular than the asics, new balance, adidas etc?

Is it principally down to the fact that the more popular brands incorporate their running shoe knowledge to the game or the fact that the cricket brands make something that is just a cricket shoe try to its traditions without moving forward in design and tech, unlike with their other kit?

Running shoes are in a Multi Billion dollar industry and they spend an amazing amount of money on research. So i would imagine the switch to cricket would be straight forward for the bigger brands of trainers. Even Nike though started with someone else making there trainers.

Asics for me. Managed to pick up the gel advance 4 blue and yellow spikes for £36 last February from the Asics outlet on the outskirts of York, am hoping for the same success this year with the Advance 5s although am not as optimistic with the Advance 5s still being an extremely popular choice not sure whether they will stock until later in the year at the outlet.

Yep. Waited a few months for the RRP of £70-£80 to drop on a pair of  Puma Platinum convertible spikes, and got a deal at the end of last season.
They're top of the line, comfortable, with good support and IMO, look the biz-nizz.

Adidas 22 yard for bowling and asics for running around in the field for me. The ones from cricket companies don't have a patch on the proper shoe makers.

I personlly go for spiked trainers, always seem to be miles lighter than dedicated cricket shoes and also alot more comfortable.
