They don't make them like this any more!
« on: January 21, 2015, 09:32:20 PM »

Following on from another thread where Ace of Elland Road was bought up I remembered I had this big hunk of tree hidden away in my collection! It was given to me by one of our northern players as broken to put on my wood burner, but I couldn't destroy a thing of such beauty. It had actually split with ways from the toe about half way up. The repair means it's now basically a laminate!  :D

Anyways, the pictures, this is a proper profile!

And the bit that interested me the most (and probably shows how unobservant I am!) was that there was a sort of dip in the back. Between the C and E on the back sticker the shape dips down, then rises up again into the bulge of the "middle". I've not seen this before that I can recall (or I just don't pay any attention!)

More pics of classic bats please

Where did that thread go with loads of them in?

We should play a game where your only allowed to use kit more than 20 years old

I get the  retro look but other than there really isn't  much ooomph in these profiles, will definitely  appeal to those  looking  for classic  and minimalistic  looks. One of the senior guys still plays with an ace which  looks just like the first bat and while it pings very well it also weighs a ton.

What is the  weight on yours

No oomph?

I used to dread bowling to someone walking out to bat with an ace bat
My grade 2 Ace was probably the best bat I've ever used

It's  more about the profile. The two three ace bats I have seen were really  good so no doubt  about quality.

Big? Really?

Profile has no concaving

It weight 3lb0.75oz

Edge is 19mm at the shoulder, 21mm at the toe and 25mm at their largest

Spine 55mm

It's not "big" compared to modern bats, but I stand by what I said "it's a big hunk of tree"
