Shirt sponsorship, advice needed.

Hi guys,  wanting to know how you guys go about shirt sponsorship?

Last year was our first season with sponsored shirts, we were given a set amount of cash so gave the players £10 discount per shirt and the remainder went to the club coffers.

This year we have been a bit more organised and approached several companies, 2 of which have already come back to us showing interest.  We didn't give a figure in the letter, but asked them to contact us for more details.  We are now at the point where they've contacted us, so do we :

A) Give the companies the actual cost of shirts, give players discount and give the rest to the club like last year.
B) Give the companies a higher cost to sponsor shirts, ie £500.  Buy the players shirts outright and give the balance to the club.
C) any other ideas.

I just want an idea of what other clubs are doing?  As, like most clubs, ours is run from donations and fundraising, I feel it is important that the club benefits from this and the players don't just get a nice new shirt!

Im sponsoring my club this year and i've said i'll pay for up to 45 shirts and all the players have to do is pay their membership to get their shirt

Not sure how our gear is broken down, but the players get a great deal.  £30 for the year and last season we got adidas shirts, trousers with embroided sponsors (4 on the shirt and two on the trousers).  New players also get baggy green cap, training shirt and shorts (with sponsors logos).  All nets are included and then both teams (mens 1sts and 2nds) pay £5 subs per week.

The income from sponsors allows the club to give the players such great value.  The shirts don't look like F1 shirts (we have a sponsor on each arm, on the chest and one on the collar).  I would see what you can get from the sponsors and cut your cloth according to that.  The better deal for the players would be my vote

For our club, sponsorship is everything.  We get a bit from the boards around the ground as well - enough to buy covers late last season.

We have senior 1sts and 2nds.  Really want to know what is an acceptable amount to ask from a business to sponsor 1 team?  Don't want to put possible sponsors off by asking too much, but at the same time don't want to be naive and be asking much less than other clubs do?  Is the going rate £350, £500, £1000??

Would rather offer shirt sponsor at a set price than just see what offers we get.

We charge our shirt sponsor a lump sum and then players buy their own shirts at £26 each.

Can be dangerous as last year I think only 5 of the 22 first/second XI regulars had the new sponsors shirt

That's a problem at our club we have to buy our own club kit and everybody is mismatched with what sponsor they have on it. I wear a differently sponsored jumper and shirt at times, which for the actual sponsor is surely something they don't want after stumping up the cash!

the way we do it is when we get interest from companies we then give them options to offer them a Gold, Silver or Bronze Sponsorship Package. Gold is the full works Logo on Shirt, front page of the club's website, board up at the ground and social media etc... and then we charge alot - not sure exactly but it is 000's, then you work your way down through the packages to Bronze which can be just Logo on the website for a little as 100 quid. This way you give the companies the option and you also have more change of attracting different sponsors etc...

Our first and second team got given kit last year which peed a few people off, like myself, but then you get asked to play for 1'2 or 2's and then havent got the same kit or anything so.
Ive been trying to push change at th club but its difficult
