Flintoff
« on: July 13, 2008, 06:58:00 AM »

I was just wondering do people he has sone enough in county cricket to worrent his place back in the England team? Because pesonally i don't. I think if he were to get picked we would need to drop a bowler because his batting isn't strong enough at the moment and i don't think it would be fair to drop one of the bowlers currently who haven't done a thing wrong. I think Colly needs to be given one more test and if he doesn't perform we should bring in Shah or Bopara. If they do drop colly for Freddie we should get rid of Ambrose as well and bring a better batsmen in to give support.

I meant bring in a better batsmen keeper but after today i think we  need a new keeper pronto. If i was a selecter i would choose Foster.

Problem with bringing Freddie back is that he would have to come in for a bowler as at present his batting form is simply not good enough for batting at number 6, especially when we have Ambrose coming in at 7 who's form is poor with both bat and gloves.

With Sidebottoms back not looking too good for the next test it might be a chance to bring Freddie back as a bowler.  Would give us that extra yard of pace we seem to be lacking against the good test sides

Foster, Mustard and Read are all better keepers and batsmen imo.
On dropping sidebottom if we do drop him for Freddie who would we drop whrn Sidebottom's fit?

Stuart Broad? I noe he hasn't done much wrong but dosen't seem to be to impressive with the ball in the first test. Batted well though.

Well he has got the call up and looked solid for Lancashire this afternoon! Lets see if he can do it at the International level again. Like Chris says you can bat him at 11 becuase he is without doubt the best bowler in the country. Good luck to him!

Definetely looked a cut above the rest off the England attack today (apart from Anderson) with swinging the ball at pace. Also looked very hostile.

I beg to differ, Read is a capable batsman and a good keeper. He's averaging 40+ this season in County Cricket from 8 innnings and last season got around 1000 runs. His 1st class average is also only slightly lower than Ambrose's.

Priors glovework was at times awful, all bowlers especially Sidebottom had lost total confidence in him and i know Him and Ryan had had words in the dressing room regarding this.

But what options have we got?  My personnal preference is to give the best gloveman in the country a run in the side, that is James Foster, his batting isn't the worst in the world but that would mean Freddie batting at 6 which i think one place is too high or bring back colly and bat Freddie 7 and Foster 8.

My team for the next test would be :

Cook
Strauss
Vaughan
Pietersen
Bell
Collingwood
Freddie
Foster
Jones
Anderson
Monty

4 frontline bowlers, Colly who can bowl 10 overs an innings which makes 5 bowlers.  Broad hasn't done anything wrong with the bat but his bowling has lacked that edge.  It was a tough choice between Jones and Harmy but you can't argue with Jones's figures this season.

Problem is we all know the selectors won't want to make wholesale changes and openly admit they've made mistakes last test!

The Only Change I Can See Happening At This Moment Is Sidebottom In For Pattison.
The Selectors Won't Bring Back Collingwood After One Test As It Shows They Maybe Were Wrong In Dropping Him, And they Have Too Much Pride Too Do That.
Also I Can't See Them Changing Keepers Mid Series. Even If It Is Best For The Team.
