A little advice...
« on: February 01, 2015, 10:01:01 PM »

My new GN F18 LE after two winter net sessions.

One half of me is saying not to worry, this is just surface cracking, it's natural and a little oiling and maybe a bit more knocking in is all that's needed right now.

The other half is running round in a blind panic wondering whether it's on it's way to being a gonner.

Any advice, reassurances etc will be gratefully received.

Have you sent this to GN, some will say it is surface crack but I think it could be more mate. Problem is you just don't know how long the bat would last if you carry on using it. It could be a few seasons or next nets.

Do send it to GN, see what they say.

Send it back.  Looks nasty, you shouldn't be getting cracks that big that early on!

You mean the length?

Don't think the by that runs down the side shows the depth think that's just surface too.

Anyone got experience of sending bats back to GN.  What's the likely outcome?

if you have a Twitter account, tweet the Gn bat workshop, the guys at Gn are brilliant and will give you sound advice.

the bat looks a good one...

Surface cracking within the grains maybe okay but this one is running across the blade. Contact GN

Yes return  it to GN its a compression surface crack that as it as gone horizontal rather than vertical   they will probably seal it with penetrative heated glue prior to clamping sanding and buffing here is the Email address : returns@grays-int .co.uk or Tel 01580 890357.

I would recommend returning it mate or atleast contacting GN on twitter, here is a look at my bat with lots of surface cracking. None of them run onto the edge of the bat, which is the aspect of your bat that would worry me.

Just "one of those things" or something to do with manufacture/preparation?

one of those things - most likely a weakness in the timber, or possible storm damage
