super short handle bats - who uses them?
« on: February 09, 2015, 12:20:34 AM »

I've heard Sanga, and Sehwag trip the top off their bat handles. Is this verified? A bit surprised because Sangakkara is actually quite tall.

If I wanted to convert SH to SSH, how much would I need to take off?

Thanks guys.

Chop the nub off the top Saad why would you do it though it a fad thing and these players have been doing it a long time the ones who actually do it.

Changes balance but only about half a ounce usually for the worst.

I have done it to a couple of bats regretted doing both to be honest i'm only 5ft 7in too.

Big favourite at minute is SSH and long blade

I would only consider it because I hold the bat fairly low down, and sometimes the top hits my forearm. The plan would be to replace the removed weight with lead tape at the very top, to make the adjustment "balance neutral".

SSH + LB ?? How does that help?

Does it effect the integrity of the handle and bat in general? Wanna try it on an old bat.

I'm gonna try it out too - apparently the standard difference between SH and SSH is just an inch. Will be easy to replace the removed weight with tape.

I like how he has his helmet on - safety first I guess.

Shiv Chanderpaul also requires a SSH and a LB if you check https://twitter.com/MadeByGrayNics/media twitter page photos.

How does the SSH-LB combo feel ? Wasn't that Tendulkar's configuration?

I've done it to a few mates refurbs. I only take a cm off at max. Does not make too much difference except for a minor increase in pickup weight.

Justin Langer's old coach mentioned he used to saw off half of the knob off Justin's bats.

Only read half that statement thought it obvious why he ran so well between wickets. ;-)

It is all horses for causes really what you personally like I will suggest this though.

No matter what Tape you used to balance it will feel different when your in our stance and picking I up.

I'm not saying don't do it but I'm saying it will make your bat feel different so think about it if it your favourite bat.

I do this to  my non custom made bats as I have short arms and feel tucked up with  a normal S/H handle.
What I do is roll the grip halfway down the handle and apply 1inch wide masking tape around the binding just below where I am going to saw this is to stop the binding fraying. I then mark and cut 1 inch off the handle in a soft jaw vice to keep the woodsaw cut level.
With regard to the  to using  lead tape to adjust the pickup up and balance of bats  you  could use a lot and its not cheap i found that  1 or 2 cut grips around 2 inches long at the top of the handle work better.
Also found lead flashing cut to 1/2 inch  wide strip wrapped around the top of the handle and held in place with cut grips works.
